Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today
Even though this troll has already been commented on, thought it was necessary to have another go.
How's your ruck/forwards/backs/midfield going?
As for finishing last, who did that last year?
I'll take the Miller hit, although your main...
Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today
Lynch is a 3rd tall/utility, with Schoenmakers there is potential to model him into a proper KPP.
There are different types of ruckmen and different types of tall forwards.
David Hale is completely different to Sandilands in the way he plays the game...
Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today
Agree, it's not about who he's picked for us, it's more that his perceived needs for Melbourne are not what we think we need.
If there is a midfield option rated on a par with a medium forward/utility option, why would we go the medium forward/utility...
Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today
That is true, Melbourne needs a ruckman as much as any other team, but Roughead is not that player, have you seen him ruck? His rucking skills are on a par, or less than Johnson's.
Roughead is regarded highly because he can be (somewhat) effective when...
Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today
Is anyone else thinking about going online tomorrow and asking him why his phantom draft is terrible(needs wise) this year?
Oh god my eyes:eek: I think I've gone into epileptic shock.
On a more serious note, this is probably the best phantom draft out come from a Melbourne perspective that I've seen, pretty much got our needs spot on.
As I said, I know Lisle can play forward, but do you rate him ahead of the other KPF available here, purely on his forward work?
In our team Suban would be a BP who could go extended stints in the middle, he is extremely similar to most of the other midfielders on our list and would most likely...
Or course this is all opinion based so I can't really come out and say that it's wrong, I agree with the majority of your assessments and it's definitely and exceptional effort, but I would be very very surprised if Melbourne's draft came out that way.
Needs wise I'd say we need pacy...
 I think you've just summed up your knowledge of the draft right there.
Mckernan might play ruck in the juniors, but when was the last time there was a (good) 196cm ruckman in the AFL?
He will end up a KPP who has the ability to take short stints in the ruck.
Melbourne also...
I like it from a Melbourne perspective.
It's good to see that you havn't just given us two forwards in our first 3 picks, just because that's what Hawthorn did.
I'm also interested as to why you've given us Redden over Roughead, I rate them on an even par and I'd possibly lean towards Redden...
Excellent from a Melbourne point of view, althoud I'f probably prefer someone bigger than Mcculoch at 51, as he will most likely end up a second ruck, and we need a dominant first. Maybe Browne?
You may as well swap Melbourne's pick 17 and 19 around if you are wanting it to be accurate.
WCE are almost 100% certain to pick a small at 18, due to there depth of talented young KPP, therefore it would be smart for Melbourne to pick a mid at 17, instead of having one less to pick from at 19.
I appreciate the effort, but if you were drafting for needs, then you got Melbourne pretty wrong :o
KPF is obvious, you only really have one going to us in Watts, as as you said Lisle is more likely to develop into a KPD.
Just to real off a few names - Garland, Rivers, Warnock, Martin...
I know I'm nitpicking, and I would be happy with all those picks, but if Melbourne came out of the draft with those players I would not be over the moon.
Watts and Blease are fantastic.
I like Schoenmakers as a player, I know in this day and age positions don't matter too much, but I see both...
I really value your opinion and it was a good read, but from a Melbourne point of view I would not be satisfied with that at all.
At 17 we are more likely to take a mid than a forwards, as WC are pretty much set for KPP, so if we take a forward at 17 it leaves one less midfielder to pick from at...
Is it possible to stop people from posting 'short' phantom drafts?
The majority of the drafts on this board are 1 round or shorter, surely by now everyone knows those names, and it just gets boring and repetitive when only one player is in a different position, or when there's only one...
Rockliff isn't really a 3rd tall... and Melbourne won't take him, especially at pick 19, because he is too similar to many players on our list and doesn't fill a direct need.
Melbourne also do not need another tall defender.
Jesse Crichton is ineligible this year.
Ranga Edirickwhatever... is a NSW scholarship player for Geelong, so he's sown up with their last pick, Same as Reed with Collingwood.
Melbourne shouldn't and probably won't go KPP at 17, as whatever player they want there should last until 19, as WCE are loaded with KPP talent.
And I don't think we would even Look at Jordan Lisle, his forward skills are not as good as Cornelius and Melbourne has a very deep backline for KPP...
Sorry to pick you apart but from a Melbourne point of view:
Pick 1 is fine.
At 17 the smart thing to do would be to pick up Steven Hill/Tom Swift/David Zaharakis, as WCE are almost certain not to take a KPP at 18, thus leaving Cornelius for 19.
At 19 you have given us Rockliff, he does not fill...
Would probably prefer Cornelius at 19 instead of Schoenmakers, Watts is more likely to a CHF and even though he's tall enough I see Schoenmakers as more of a 3rd tall than a CHF.
Also pretty sure WCE won't go for any KPP, they are pretty set at both ends of the ground.
Someone will pick him up in the 3rd round onwards, won't make it into the first two.
He's bottom age and a nice size at a shade under 200cm with the potential to grow.
Melbourne's first two picks are pretty decent.
I think it would be a bit of a stretch for us to go Roughead at #19, but if we were to get Mitch Brown at #35 I'd be ok with it.
They'll both be 26/27 next year, so will Scott Stevens, and other than those three the only other tall backman you have is Aaron Kite, who is as yet unproven.
When Trengove is ready to go when he's 21/22 in 3-4 years, Bock Rutten and Stevens will all be 29/30ish.
We need space to use 51 and it's likely that if we get Warnock and elevate Wona then we will only have 4 picks in the main draft.
As for Liam Jones I've only seen him play once and he didn't really stand out to me when he played, but he's a nice size and he did take a few decent marks from...
