Unofficial Preview Round 8 Early Thoughts: Sydney v North Melbourne

I think on draft date there was more want on the North board for Florent. On exposed form Simpkins shot on goal needs work, I am hoping its more a case of him needing time to settle into AFL pace and all that.

Well I was in conversations with other members of your board, and having a generally civil time and c'mon if you actually believe that crap then you have problems.

Let's be honest in some way shape of form most teams have/are receiving some for of assistance.

But I think that as we have spending close to 100% on the salary cap and large amount of room this and future seasons that we wouldn't be selling the farm as such. I would assume the cap would be worked to make sure it worked well.

Yep I have responded to that. I think around that time the AFL were happy to drop many "non performing teams" like Fitzroy, Footscray and even Richmond. Having a national competition is a good thing but I do think that new areas should have completely new sides. I do sympathise with South Melb...

Huh?, I am taking your word for what happened as I wasn't around. I made points which you could choose to address and I would be interested in learning how you arrived at hating North (in isolation to other vic clubs?). Like I said Aylett ended up on the pro GC bandwagon so i don't have much...

Well ok that addresses some of the bad blood. Really I was 2 when South Melbourne went to Sydney so I can't remember much of that. I would hazard a guess that it wasn't just north you "put you on the brink" to be honest every club in Melbourne has tried to put us to the wall so I can sympathise...

Yep would prefer the rational approach, I was interested as to why the terms shambles/parasite comments were made a posted hinted there was a history of bad blood of which I am genuinely interested in. I only went down the concession path in response to connolly's post, but yes your house, your...

Ill try to reply respectfully. I don't think it will be a generation long rebuild, Harvey and Wells aside the other players who have left were pretty much done, Wellsy really is unreliable due to injury (the pies will find this out) and Harvey was showing signs of decline. We have tried to...

Yeah that's my point, NSW is a tough sports market and Franklin is one of a kind in terms of profile. You do what you need to do to get the player. We have identified a need for a "franchise" player. North have suffered largely due to not bottoming out and frankly the concessions of the new...

What an overreaction, Heeney is a special talent and while I doubt it would happen that kind of contact would be what it takes. North have a lot of space in the cap, and I'm sure you would know that clubs balance the cap over a long period of time. Didn't you guys offer mason wood (one of our...

Agree with most of that. We wouldn't have the currency. I think McDonald is a keeper, Cunnington would have the most trade value IF he gets back into some form and I'd doubt Atley would return much in a trade. I think the big part will be FS over the next few yrs. Interesting to see what happens...

Like I said I doubt we would be able to get him. That said I don't think the rebuild will be that massive. Harvey was probably the most important player we lost of that group, the others weren't offering much more than the potential replacement will. Wells you couldn't really count on due to...

Agree there, you guys would be asking for a lot and I am unsure if we could offer it. What would you say the asking price hypothetically would be?

Yep that was what I was getting at. I wouldn't have thought Heeney would leave

I assume the Carey/Longmire thing. The whole North into Sydney thing was a shitstorm I guess but surely enough time has passed on that. Apart from that i'd have thought trade/player recruitment has been ok Schwass/Grant seemed like a win win. Am I missing anything else?

I actually thought "Heeney's manager would love this" when the news broke.

Honest question. Why does North chasing Heeney equate to us being a parasite club? I don't think we would be able to actually land him but this isn't the first time a team has chased an opposition's player. Just seems like an odd stance to take.
