This thread has a lot of potential, but I'm worried it might not make it. Heading into pre-season, there is a very real chance it rests on it's laurels and doesn't do the hard work necessary to become a 300 page legendary thread.
The Sydney Stack Sanity Test. Choose the statement you feel is most justified.
1) Sydney Stack could have been the GOAT. I've torn up my 1997 membership card in disgust.
2) Sydney Stack had a lot of baggage. It's the coaches fault that he didn't make it. Therefore, Richmond is racist.
3) Sydney...
We'll see. I'd guess at least one list spot (and possibly two) are kept open as long as possible. We're trying to win a flag in 2023 and you don't lock everything away until you absolutely have to.
So what? I don't get the concern from some on this board over Stack becoming "another Tyson Stengle".
Our recruiters and coaching staff have one job. Get the best list that can compete for and win multiple premierships. They did everything they could and gave him four years to prove that he was...
If he’s still on the list when pre-season starts, put him in the same group as Taranto. After a month he will either be fitter than he ever has, or he will quit. Either is better than another half-arsed season spent in the VFL.
Despite a ton of talent, he didn't make the team. He played one game. We thrashed the opposition. He barely got a touch, despite playing up forward. He then stagnated throughout the year in the VFL and never put together a run of good form. In the coaches parlance, he wasn't banging down the...
He had been dropped and he injured his ankle in the VFL. He made it back and played in the VFL Grand Final. Marlion Pickett played in the same game and was clearly BOG. The rest is history. Perhaps it was a sliding doors moment for Sydney Stack.
It looks to me like it's a choice between the talented but immature Sydney Stack or the limited but improving RCD. If we got a half-decent trade offer for either of them, I think that would be the deciding factor.
Do you mean if Stack did what is expected of a professional footballer? He hasn't yet demonstrated the maturity to do so. I hope he grasps the opportunity before it is too late.
I agree, but I think we are saying "unfit" instead of lazy and arrogant. Stack has more natural talent than 90% of the players on our list. We're assuming he has good character, and so therefore it must be fitness holding him back. I'm not so sure.
Watch his games. Really watch them. In the...
I loved Shedda's game on the weekend and if he's got enough in the tank for one last finals series then that's great news for us. I don't think he will or should play on in 2023. Might get Houli'd.
I strongly disagree. Stack is not "plenty fit enough". He plays forward, so isn't covering midfield km. He goes missing for whole quarters, often just walking or jogging around on the fat side of the ground when the ball is pinging down the other wing. He is a multi-effort player at times, but...
I can't see him contributing at the necessary level in 4 finals. Rather than drop him, if we win this week (huge IF), I hope he retires the following week ahead of his 300th and final game against the Lions at the MCG. Give us all a chance to get along and cheer every possession and give him a...
I didn't get to Punt Road yesterday, so I'll trust the opinion of others who saw him play live. Zero tackles is a pretty damning stat.
My $0.02 worth - he cruises through games, tries to do too much when he gets the football and doesn't have the required level of fitness to play AFL. I could...
