Surprised by the decision
I thought the moment head office got involved he’d never be entitled to a fair trial
I do wonder if AFL will appeal
They’ll certainly change the rules
We are 24 months away from the speccy being removed from the game and 48 months away from not being able to jump...
Well "eyes on the ball attempting to collect it" is a little different to simply "eyes on the ball"
I could argue "eyes" means nothing in this situation. How much of the post did you want to cut out to suit an argument?
For people wanting Cripps rubbed out - do you think he was
a) eyes on the ball attempting to collect it
or
b) eyes on the player electing to bump
For me - the vision I have seen - a) looks the most likely scenario. The fact Ah Chee is injured should only come into it once it has been...
I've only seen two angles - both of which are a little obscured.
However the reverse angle looks like he had his hands in a cupping position to collect the ball on his chest - which he is entitled to do.
The grading reflects the fact people are in shock as to the perpetrator
Does anyone think this is "in character" for Tom Stewart?
Not at all, but the reality is - the act was a poor one, it was deliberate and should be punished as so.
I genuinely can't remember a bump that late in ages.
Player who pushed him will be culpable and should get a fine
That’s what happens when it happens at a stoppage - it’s the pusher, not the pushee who is penalised
Rightly so
Wow - that's an old timer you don't see much of anymore.
only thing he didn't do to make it look like the 80s was raise his elbow
4 weeks i reckon for how egregiously late it was.
I love Greene - reckon he gets an unfair go with the tribunal - but that’s at least a month off football
can’t tell me he didn’t deliberately shoulder him
Your own comment proves the point
“Greene has a history of dirty acts”. That is completely irrelevant to his guilt in any incident
it should be relevant to any suspension handed down though once guilt has been decided
In yesterday's derby, David Mundy, whilst in possession of the ball lifted his elbow to deal with a tackler - in a genuine attempt to dispose of the ball.
The result was the tackler losing teeth.
By any view - what Mundy did was perfectly fair and the result on the tackler was nothing more...
Toby Greene suspended for being Toby Greene
Blokes fend off and raise their arms when being tackled all day long.
Danger knocked a bloke out in a grand final.
Neither should be suspensions
I was surprised and happy when I found out Mackay was rightfully cleared
This is tempered though by the fact that the AFL will simply amend the rules to ensure the next accident actually gets suspended
can’t wait for Liam Ryan to be suspended for his hip hitting someone in the head whilst...
Brad Sheppard's actions against Carlton were a mile worse than Mackay's
The only difference?
Sheppard only hurt himself.
But let's be honest - this decision is going to be absolutely railroaded.
In 10 years - there will be strict liability for players going for high marks as well.
Daniel venables got a concussion that probably will end his career from high contact by a melbourne player
Should that player now be suspended?
Using outcome as the sole arbiter of guilt is the worst kind of logic.
By that logic you could punch someone in the face and as long as they are ok...
Mackay had his hands on the ball didn't he?
He made the ball his object
He didn't choose to bump - he chose to go for the ball and a collision ensued.
Clark was injured, that's unfortunate.
Surely the tribunal sees through this.
