When the AFL doesn't want that specific player suspended, they get let off. Forceful strike with bone hitting the solar plexus is the same whether the fist is clenched or not.
There's no defending that hit. The few saints fans trying to paint it in a better light are delusional or trolling. It was as bad as it gets, but I'm hoping that the footy world doesn't come down too hard on Webster on a personal level. He'll cop a long suspension, which is deserved. But he's...
Utter stupidity from Webster. I do believe that it was a brain fade rather than a malicious act because he's gone 12 years in the comp without doing anything like that, but it's got to be a 6 week suspension. That is exactly what we cannot allow to happen in the sport.
This is a good point. If you set a precedent that it's okay to KO someone who just kicked the ball because you ran at them and jumped into the air in an attempt to smother then the game is going to be in a lot of trouble.
His hands were in a position to brace and soften the contact but instead he drops the shoulder and gets Brayshaw in the head. He's giving away a downfield free kick either way because it was a reckless, poorly timed jump but the first option wouldn't have resulted in knocking someone out.
Agree that it needs to be stamped out of the game. Staging provides much needed comic relief in an otherwise boring sport in soccer but I hate footy being marred by players initiating or exaggerating contact purely to trick the umpires and draw free kicks. Jack Lonie the main offender at St...
A forceful, intentional elbow to the face of an unsuspecting player is an absolute dog act and has no place in footy. I'm amazed at the reaction from Hawthorn fans to this incident. This should be penalised much more harshly than someone who mistimes a bump or spoil in the course of play. Do...
Didn't leave the ground, didn't raise his elbow and it was close to the ball. Free kick for high contact and nothing more. I'm not a fan of May, but he should not get weeks for this. His only other option was to slow down and bend his knees before bumping; May getting weeks would set a terrible...
Seriously? Hurn drops the ball uncontested and as he moves his arms down to get it back he makes incidental contact with Saad's leg. He dropped the mark but the umpire didn't like the way Saad tried to contest, despite not making contact. The ball is taken off St Kilda and chipped to Brown. He...
Darling flinging his head around in feigned agony every time the ball comes near him is a disgrace and the reason he doesn't get actual free kicks. There was a clear one that should have been paid to him and another paid against him that was wrong, which came after about 12 blatant attempts at...
There will never be a perfectly umpired game. They'll always miss a few and they'll always pay a few iffy ones. Overall I still think the grand final was the best umpiring performance I've seen in the last 5 years
And if that's the case, then St Kilda should take the AFL to court. It is grossly unfair and completely unreasonable to charge certain players differently because of their standing in the game and a desire to 'make an example' of them. The fact is that if it was Judd who did what Baker did, he...
His taps to the chin were free-kicks, not 3-week suspensions. That's the glaring issue. Yes I realise the 12 comes from 4 separate charges, but I don't see how anyone in their right mind could say that Baker's strikes had more force than Judd's, which apparently didn't warrant a charge.
I'm...
I'd love to know how the ump decided to penalise Milne for a trip on O'Brien rather than kicking in danger. I thought the umpiring was rather shite and mostly went against St Kilda. It wasn't as bad towards the end but this was the worst officiated game I've seen so far this season.
Kosi tried to make a contest, failed, and whacked the Adelaide bloke in frustration. Dumb act and I'm not concerned about the suspension, but you wouldn't want to see players miss finals for something like that.
Dawson however just didn't do anything against the rules. I can't see how a...
