I'd say it's more likely based on a whisper from Mitchell's management.
That doesn't mean it will happen but it's silly to claim it's based on literally nothing.
There's certainly a material difference if a rebuilding club wants to add another pick in the teens.
As it stands, those two second-rounders, if offered to Hawthorn, would be their fourth and fifth picks at the end of this season. That doesn't represent the kind of improved draft hand that...
Then he won't get to a contender. The whole story is premised on that being his objective. If that's accurate, Richmond probaby aren't paying him 800k, even if it's back-ended. Unless there's some deal with Hawthorn chipping in. I guess that can't be discounted.
That was acknowledged in my original post. There is a trade-off between Prestia having more runs on the board and Cerra being two years younger at the time of trade.
Prestia's B&F finishes aren't that revealing given GC had almost no established top-liners after Ablett. He basically developed...
Anyway, as I was saying, the Prestia deal seems like a reasonable template for this deal. Something in the back end of the top 10, maybe with later exchanges as a makeweight.
Richmond will have two of those. They could trade one and still have three picks in the top 30.
No reason why not if they want a readymade midfielder who is still a legitimate top-liner.
Are Essendon in contention? Geelong have SFA picks to trade this year.
That's why I'm saying it's a short list. A contender with at least one first-rounder up their sleeves who might want to add a player Mitchell's age. And if he wants to stay in Melbourne, the list gets shorter still.
Your bending of facts to suit whatever you're arguing on any given day is tedious.
Richmond are clearly still in a premiership window. Why would you try to pretend otherwise?
If Mitchell wants to go to a contender, such as Richmond, let's assume a pay cut goes with the territory.
Rubbish. Picks move up and down all the time. Clubs aren't locked into trading only the picks they have at the outset.
You also had a future first-rounder. Why didn't you trade that instead?
Fake certainty.
If this is true, why didn't you trade your future first-rounder instead?
You also got...
Mitchell could be a top three midfielder at Richmond next year, when you'll be chasing another flag. He wouldn't be going to replace an older player long term. He'd be going there to improve your midfield right now as an elite, high-volume inside midfielder.
A late first-rounder that could end...
This trade seems roughly analogous to Richmond poaching Dion Prestia from Gold Coast.
Admittedly, Prestia stayed two years longer at GC, so he was 24 and had played 95 games by the time he left. Cerra, by comparison, will be 22 and have played close to 80 games should he leave at the end of...
He's third in the comp for effective disposals. Second behind Macrae if it's based on averages.
I get that Mitchell is not a super dynamic burst player. But this idea that he's useless is ridiculous.
