Richmond traded in Westcoast and Freo third round picks.
Richmond's draft hand next year 2024 is stacked. Currently looks like.
Picks
6, 25, 26, 39, 43, 44, 62, 70
It's like there stockpiling for a fatherson or a trade for points.
Picks after 26 equate to pick 11.
With tight list spots clubs want to use more higher value picks than more lower value picks.
For example if my club is only taking 3 picks in the draft. I would be more inclined to use picks 3, 40 and 50.
Instead of picks 20, 25 and 30.
Therefore I wouldn't trade pick 3 for 20, 25, 30 and...
Except as has been reported Geelong have very little salary cap Space and If J.Steven were to be traded to Geelong St.K would need to pay 200-300k of his Salary Next year.
Martin and Fyfe are worth 1.5+ million a season range. Hill is in a different market to those players all together.
Keep in Mind St Kilda has plenty of cap space hence can over pay Hill, to entice him to join the club.
Ablett cost Pick 19 and a swap of 2nd round picks and was 4 years older than Steven at the time of Trade.
Ablett also with similar go home issues.
At miniumum Jack Steven is worth the same, and more likely a straight swap of Geelongs first round pick.
2014 Draft was said to be a super draft and Paddy McCartin hasn't shown much since his first 5 games.
Draft Picks a well over rated. There is a chance that the player drafted wont reach there potential.
It was a bit Rough RE: Buddy and the hawks should have been compensated slightly better...
Nick Bowen (AFL media) Just said GC is expected to accept pick 3 as compensation for Lynch. Got to be kidding himself. Lynch is a once in a lifetime player.
GC should be asking for Next years first and second rounder and a top 5 pick this year at minimum. And theirs not reason Richmond...

Gaints---------------------Pick 8 (1551)
IN Picks 23 + 24
Out 8
Gain 49 Points
(2 early round picks allow them to use pick 27 on another player)
Saints ---------------------Pick 5 (1878) + Pick 24 (785) = 2663
Out Pick 5 + 24
In Carlisle + 8
Gain 156...
A top 10 pick this year is worth much more than a second round pick than in previous drafts.
