Probably safe to assume both Carlton and Lions would offer him more money and a longer contract as well...which is typically the case when attempting to lure a player from another club.
Kennedy's tracking fine so far as only a 2nd year mid, but if he were to sign a 2 year contract and spend a...
IIRC his last few AFL games weren't great but surely he gets a game ahead of Himmelberg? I would have thought maybe over Deledio as well.
And then he's not even named in the emergencies but an out of form Johnson and 2 x 1st year players are.
I reckon all of Carlton, saints and roos would accommodate if it helped them land someone like Kelly at a cheaper rate trade asset wise.
Kind of like how I believe you gave up a high pick for Deledio in part because Richmond agreed to pay some of his salary.
It would be a bargaining chip in...
Seems like the kind of player GWS should stay really firm on only offering to a certain level and not a dollar higher...if he leaves he leaves...he won't break the side.
$650k a year is huge overs for Smith...especially when you consider all the other star players you have to keep happy...Smith...
Would be pretty rare for a player like Griffen to just forgo part of his contract and thus a whole lot of money.
Maybe more likely he's traded as a package with anyone else that might be traded (eg Kelly/Smith) as a salary dump component?
We've taken quite a few 'salary dumps' from you over the...
I thought it was a pretty good option and good kick...not sure why people laying into him for it.
If Shaw was actually looking at him like he should have been, he probably marks it and gets a clear shot on goal...which is much better than a high kick to a huge pack at the top of the goalsquare...
Valid points but as mentioned, this poster never said these were 'done deals', he was just informing us who we were targeting etc.
Obviously you can say 'well anyone can say that when it's bs or just throw darts', but as Jeremias is saying, this poster has a very impressive track record overall...
Very selective picking there.
We were fortunate to have someone giving us constant updates on the trades being discussed.
You do realise trade week is the most volatile with so many moving parts and variables, and things changing constantly.
For every trade that gets done, there were probably...
Couldn't blame a young man for taking that kind of crazy money and security North are offering.
I'm sure he'd rather stay, but it probably becomes a question of how much less is he willing to stay at GWS for and what are GWS willing to pay?
Will be interesting...with GWS firmly in 'win a...
Devon Smith was the third GWS player mentioned that we are interested in...again no surprise there as he along with Hopper & Kennedy are the young guns out of contract.
Since so many clubs will be after them and some may stay with you, it's likely we'd only get 1 of the 3, if any.
Of course...
What has he gotten wrong? I don't think you actually know who Jeremias is talking about.
The poster he is referring to has got every tidbit right since he started posting...from trade targets, draft targets, who will debut each week etc.
And i understand we all get touchy about talk of players...
TBH Whitfield hasn't quite lived up to his draft position and from what i've seen, doesn't look like he'll ever be that really inspirational, dominating mid that you pay top dollar for.
He's just a silky smooth, smart player with good skills that is a nice 'piece of the puzzle' of a good...
Im still surprised you let him go SO cheaply though...even if he has had 2 knee reco's.
I mean Steele obviously went for a much fairer value.
And rumours are we'll be trading a first round pick for Marchbank and Pickett...not 2 token late picks.
Id image you could get a better pick than that...
Not sure what North's beef is with us.
Apparently they were the rival team initially into Tuohy and offering a larger and longer contract than us.
Then we hear they have joined the race for Hrovat when it looked like we had him done deal...again a a larger contract offering.
Now they trying...
And Ahern as well right?
With the salary situation I don't think it's surprising for gws to let corr go...I don't think he's best 22 amd those other young guys you mentioned will be on lower contracts being newer and have just as much potential anyway.
Further spreads gws' list age as well...
Win win I guess?
We get 4 guys who could be best 22 players...including two former high draft picks. Although they come with injury concerns.
Gws get a high draft pick they seem to really want, lose 4 guys who weren't best 22 (maybe except Marchbank but you have ample cover for him and he only...
Pickett's name was mentioned previously as a 'player of interest' by the same source a while back and Corr was another one mentioned by someone else.
Any word on how bad Pickett's injury is? Im a bit worried if the 2 highly rated players we would hypothetically get both had injury issues...
Hey do you guys have any in the know posters on your board who can confirm this?
A poster with a very very good track record and therefore basically revered on our board lol posted a rumour that it's looking like we will trade pick 5 to gws for up to 4 players.
Sure there could be other little...
Lol a rumour saying Steele toured our facilities is very different from saying he's coming to Carlton...
As a player he would tour multiple club facilities even just for back up options, even if his first preference is saints.
So it's really not that ridiculous to suggest he's toured Carltons...
IMO we'll use him as a half forward/wing...seems to be his best position where he can use his running strength.
Read on here that he's not really great as a key position forward.
The consensus on the Carlton board seems to be that basically the main reason the Tomlinson trade fell through was because of the whole McCarthy saga and the public spotlight of the situation in 'forcing' McCarthy to stay while letting Tomlinson go...anyone know if this is true?
You have ample up and comers to replace Marcbank like Corr, Finlayson, Himmelberg and Macreadie.
It's not a bad thing as you have adequate replacements and you further spread the age profile of your list and get points for next years academy crop.
Because for some footy players there is more to life than football...just like for any one of us there is more to life than work.
Family, friends, girlfriend, culture of western sydney vs melbourne, possibly more money & job security at another club are the likely reasons.
Fair enough.
Though I remember reading an interview with setterfield I think it was, who said he basically only spent a week with the GWS academy...not exactly sure how much he could learn in just one week.
I think he actually said something like it didn't matter anyway, he was always going...
Yeah would have brought even more scrutiny on the academy system...and possibly whispers of backroom handshakes about not bidding on your players from certain clubs.
Let's be real though, I'm sure that stuff does happen in an unspoken or read between the lines type of way.
Plus why need to...
Yep win win trade.
Though given the form of the 4 guys for us this year, I'm surprised we got them for just pick 28 and that no other team seemed to be interested...I know they all had injury issues but they haven't missed too much this year.
Plowman himself is probably worth pick 28...did no...
You guys had so many other KPD's to cover Plowman...it just so happens they're all injured atm
Was the right decision to let him go and spread the age profile and allow guys like Marchbank to take his spot.
