For those that bought from JB but want to return this PoS:
1) Go to EB Games
2) Buy a copy, request it to be sealed
3) Take sealed copy from EB Games to JB HiFi with your JB receipt and return it
4) Take opened copy from JB HiFi back to EB Games with your EB receipt, and return it under their 7...
This is nigh on unplayable. You only get smooth gameplay when playing against another person because you're both equally disadvantaged by its broken mechanics.
It's kind of disappointing that there are such large barriers in the way of creating a more harmonious gaming ecosystem, but it's part and parcel of the capitalist world and is a key driver for innovation, so it isn't without its positives.
I don't believe so. Such functioning was only recently incorporated into the big sports titles and, IRRC, requires a bit of fiddling and pandering the the demands of Microsoft/Sony/Valve to get it going.
Here I was, not wanting to order the game online just so I wouldn't risk waiting until the weekend, yet it seems promising for those that did. If even one person gets it early tomorrow then it might get the ball rolling.
I suppose so. But, for example, the Big W systems showed no sign of it as late as friday gone whilst games will typically appear weeks if not months in advance (according to my friend who was worked in that department for some time). Big titles sometimes even have expected stock quotas attached...
Therein lies the difference. Target, as a whole (not just store persons), didn't even know they were getting stock until a few days ago. This is the antithesis of a big game release, hence why previous copies were leaking early.
This. Now that the game has gone gold they will be doing it to get some "real" testing done in advance of the launch. In house testing at the studio cannot completely replicate what the end user will experience. Or perhaps they've just given it to their kids/family/friends early.
Also, to follow up what was mentioned about Target:
I asked them via FB chat, and whilst they confirmed that they are getting it, they said their price is "still top secret", so maybe there's a good chance of it being close to the $70 mark.
I'm leaning towards it being a manual bounce whilst sprinting.
In older games, you would have to momentarily release the sprint button to make the player bounce it. Perhaps they've changed it so that it won't automatically bounce when sprinting but you can choose to do it manually. They may...
deesjosh5 I didn't pick up on that - good spot.
This will be a very handy feature, provided that the gameplay mechanics allow it to be utilised. By that, I mean that previous AFL games desperately needed this feature since reading the mini-map was nearly impossible due to the tackle-fest...
To be fair, if it was faithful to the modern game then you would see every player on screen at once. Technical limitations aside (I doubt there'd be any), I cannot see the AFL funding or even ticking off on a product that replicates the style of game they're so hellbent on changing. It wouldn't...
Actually, you'll find your observation is wrong on two counts:
You see the controlled player first attempting to lay a tackle, but he misses and stumbles after lunging due to a sharp turn by Shaw
After this, the person chooses to control a player a distance away from Shaw, but the AI is still...
From that little clip, there seems to be a fair bit of promise. As above, the part where Shaw was able to turn around on the HBF, weave around players and then centre the ball looked really good, and indicates gameplay is much less of the usual "kick, mark, kick, mark, goal".
The animations are...
Lacking polish with frustrating minor errors? Then, yes, that would be fair.
But if/when there are rather large issues with graphics, gameplay, functions etc, then I expect the pitchforks to surface en masse.
You're probably right, sadly. I can't help but feel that this game would've been slated for release round 1 this year, but then the AFL forced them to include the AFLW players.
If the men's league had to wait almost 140 years for a video game to be made for them, then the women can, too.
It's not that I have an independent problem with them not including varying ground sizes, it's that I have a problem with them prioritising AFLW over this. If they said "we didn't have time to include it" and only focused on important things, then that's fair enough, but they didn't.
I...
Teams have to create different strategies for different grounds. For example, the zone defence is perfect at the tiny SCG but can be easily ripped apart on the expanses of Subiaco. This is something not conveyed to the fans because, for obvious reasons, the coach doesn't broadcast their game...
As for the ground dimensions being the same, it concerns me that this has been overlooked whilst time was spent on creating the AFLW teams. Ground dimensions have a tangible effect on gameplay in real life, thus would have likely translated into affecting gameplay in AFL Evolution. Priorities...
I know a friend who works in Big W and he said that they haven't had anything pop up in their system yet, and added that they usually know about a month before release, so highly doubts they'll be getting any.
