I'd Imagine that Tassie would get an academy. I believe that depth of talent will only increase over time due to increased participation which can offset the talent dilution. Listening to Hugh Greenwood speak recently, there is probably a bigger go home factor for tasmanians than people think too.
I don't think Roylion is advocating for 6 new teams coming through all at the same time but more so over time. During Covid, list size cuts were mandated. I believe list sizes were reduced by at least 3 spots per club. That would be enough players with AFL experience to filter into a new club...
It's not about 4 northern state clubs tho. they would be getting the same figure, if not more by having a 3rd wa and sa team plus a Tassie team and keeping sydney.
it's about the number of clubs and there viewing figures.
a new owner bought the sonics and promised to keep them in seattle and build a new stadium. He moved them to Oklahoma soon after.
It alienated one of the biggest basketball areas in the country who all now don't watch basketball.
It was like relocating Geelong. It cost the NBA a shitload.
plenty of rich clubs aren't in the top league. In a league governed by financial performance, the dogs would have been a div 2 team.
Explain to me why 2 NFL teams are moving to LA when the Rams failed miserably in their previous incarnation. Why did the Supersonics move to Oklahoma?
The AFL...
it wasn't too long ago that your club was on its knees and would have been the brunt of relocation jokes. Many leagues have moved clubs to the detriment of the leagues (NBA/NFL) and most of your examples are pointless due to promotion and relegation being based on onfield performance, not...
2 of those superpowers were on the verge of merging/folding 20 years ago. Nice long term thinking from yourself. 'Superpowers' are cyclical. The doggies may be a superpower in 10 years for all you know.
The AFL is acting as a charity towards your club and will have to do so long term. Small...
not a fair comparison as soccer teams have the ability to get promoted back into the top division and the league is based on performance, not their finances.
County cricket has promotion so again, your comparison is poor.
The NFL and NBA don't move teams, their franchise owners do it in...
I know that you are new to this game but there are mitigating circumstances which contribute to these losses, many of which are controlled by the AFL.
a couple of things, more clubs=more games =more tv revenue
merging or relocating a victorian club would result in a significant net loss of AFL...
the AFL manages every situation. John Elliot admitted to it.
Seems you are much harsher on the Brions and franchises than your own club.
Do u have proof that Brisbane used the extra cap room?
No. It'd be a sustainable football club with strong local and victorian support.
Doesn't have the 'potential' that Sydney has but much more than the Queensland clubs.
Most of the TV viewers are in the southern states and WA.
I think the AFL would be happy with keeping all the existing VIC clubs if they can stay above water which they are currently doing and getting stronger.
Can't maintain profits or service debts?
Yeah mate, sure....9 out of 10 years of profits this year....debt is minimal and well under control. The AFL won't be ******* us up the arse so much with Etihad next year either which is nice too.
We are more than fine as are all vic clubs.
you mean the 2 povvo Adelaide teams that barely had one player drafted this year. What about them?
Tassie would be better off with a new team. There is zero justification for relocating a Vic team.
How will you bump the crowd attendance? Has this ever happened?
Why would the AFL relocate a club when they can start another franchise from scratch?
and yeah, literally zero chance it's North getting relocated, that ship sailed in 07.
Why is it inevitable? The more teams in the comp = more games played = more tv revenue. Relocation makes little sense and has proven to be a massive failure in many sports.
