AFL proven totally inept at GF Entertainment AGAIN

Oh no, they are playing domestic bands but not the ones I personally like and the half time break is a whole 2 minutes longer. The sky is falling. The GF is in Brisbane in a season affected by Coronavirus. Who really cares about the GF entertainment? They'll never please everybody anyway.

For some strange reason, I completely support Gold Coast getting the first two picks in the draft this year. One time deal Suns, you have my backing.

Where should the AFL Grand Final be played?

Hypoxic stress? Circadian rhythm? They don't have to be cramped in a vehicle. They don't necessarily have to travel together and they can stop and get out for breaks. It's not just that either. It's far easier for their fans to attend for support. The other advantage they have of course is...

Where should the AFL Grand Final be played?

Why would they? It's a 5 hour drive for them. They don't have the tyranny of distance that the AFL has.
  9. The Old Dark Navy's

Where should the AFL Grand Final be played?

Yep, rotate it or at least organise it based on the number of teams in that city, so MCG gets more GFs but not all of them. Based on those 4 cities, and the teams in each city, 6 out of every 16 GFs are not at the G. When Brisbane gets a big enough ground, they join the rotation with 2 GFs...

Ross Oakley - Go Forth and Multiply

Carlton were refused access to the CBF. The figure we got in 2006 for memory, was a $1m bribe to move to Etihad and cover off Princes Park existing contracts and $1.1m for Princes Park rent/expenses/maintenance because the Umpires were based there.

VFL Almost closed by corporate regulator 1986

Exactly. The product was viable, the spending was not. Salaries would have been smaller and a lot 9f administration would be voluntary. Transfer fees would be gone and VFL teams would have stuck with only 50% plus of the best players in the country running around mostly for the love of the...

Equalisation - the facts and the premiership merry-go-round

That's not to say that the extra 6 teams back then would have changed that formula. Only 1 of the 7 added clubs have won a flag in the last 10 years at any rate. I do get the point that if equalisation is the goal, then that number should be creeping up. 7 of 10 flags were won by non Vic sides...

Equalisation - the facts and the premiership merry-go-round

I suspect with the NFL It is more about retention. Players won't stay somewhere where the city is dull, facilities bad, people are hayseeds. Like the AFL they long for success and historical big clubs in big cities.

Yes NRL. Phone auto corrects to NFL.

Equalisation - the facts and the premiership merry-go-round

The return is probably no better or worse than the NRL which doesn't have draft or concessions, just a cap. They have a couple of clubs who can't win a flag as well. So what is the conclusion here? That equalisation measures don't go far enough to change the trend or thst statistically...

    Towards a National Competition - 1987-1996 Timeline

I think it is because they wanted less teams in Melbourne so were making it harder so the stragglers were forced to relocate or merge. Seems they tried the same thing with North to Gold Coast. Probably wouldn't have done it if a club with a larger supporter base was on the chopping block.

    salary cap

We see players leaving for success over money so this isn't going to stop that. If you reduce salaries in a bottom side, there is perhaps more incentive for players to leave. I think it shouldn't be so stringent but this issue is a double edged sword I think.

Geelong post a $3 million loss

Don't know. The point is we may have had to pay more to get the right people in place because we aren't an attractive destination. If we don't spend more, we will remain unattractive and so the cycle goes.
  20. The Old Dark Navy's

Geelong post a $3 million loss

I don't know. Getting qualified staff costs more when you are not as attractive a destination. In Carlton's case, we had to completely restructure our football department and bring in more people to help us on field. People will point to the sacking of coaches but that money was going to be...
  21. The Old Dark Navy's

Geelong post a $3 million loss

I hear that. Same for Carlton. We spent more and pay the tax and make huge losses which the tax contributes to. Seems you could limit your spending and cash in with free money as well.
  22. The Old Dark Navy's

Geelong post a $3 million loss

Exactly. These teams are getting taxed for spendings, not revenue. So they spend more of their own cash on their football department and then spend more of their own cash BECAUSE they spend more of their own cash. You could feasibly have one of the lower revenue totals but pay the most tax...
  23. The Old Dark Navy's

Geelong post a $3 million loss

It is. Can't believe the AFL left no wriggle room. As it was they virtually forced Carlton to Docklands. Wanted us out of Princes Park and only offered incentives for Docklands when we were cash strapped. I know we blame Collins and his COI but it was never going to go down differently. Seems...

Geelong post a $3 million loss

Just to clarify, Carlton officially have 2 home grounds and have formally moved to a 6-5 split in favour of the MCG. That's what happened in 2015 so we have gone 3-2 in favour of the MCG with away games at the 2 venues. I believe Essendon have an official 7-4 split in favour of Etihad but they...

How does Sydney stack up as a desirable location to live in, and thus pay for though? I mean an NFL player drafted to New York is going to be up for more costs as well, but he lives in ..... New York. People willingly pay more money to live there in whatever capacity they can muster. If all...
