I reckon that poster on LU is actually an AFL fan pulling the piss, going over the top and seeing how far he can push it and for how long. No one there has noticed. It’s brilliant. Or he is PVL.
A 20th team is so far down the track I am nit sure why we are taking so much about it. The AFL will see how Tas goes - how the new stadium works, how the list building mechanisms works, etc, before they canvas a 20th team, and before they out it to the clubs for a vote. I predict that in 2020...
A 20th team does not add an extra game every week. Just 11/12 more games. If it placed in a market with similar appeal to GWS or GC, it might actually cost the game money. Another timeslot and more games overlapping is not what the broadcasters want. Reckon we will sit at 19 for quite a while.
Hawks play the next three three Sundays in the new 4pm slot. With school back reckon there will be some poor crowds. 3.20pm is ok, but 4pm is too late for anyone with primary school aged kids.
A 20th team is not on the radar. It is a long, long way off.
A quote from Andrew Dillon yesterday ““I think a lot of people like the even numbers (with a 20th team) but there’s nothing that says you have to”.
No chance of a 25 game season soon. AFLPA already kicking up about the suggestion of 24. But, you can’t have a 23 game season with 19 teams, and you can’t have Gather Round without a round of neutral games. So, I reckon it will go to 24 when Tas come in (or before) 11 home, 11 away and two...
Not really. Stare jumpers were not always state of origin. They were worn by whoever was playing in/for that state. Like Dunstall playing for Victoria.
Obviously, but it is an example of how the Swans stuffed the Giants by keeping half of the suburbs west of Sydney. And the Swans fans don’t have any problem turning up at games.
Perhaps AFLW should be played before AFL games. All stadiums need two sets of rooms so there can be a tight turnaround. E.g. 5.30pm start before at 7.40pm AFL game. At least the last quarter woild be played before half the AFL crowd.
Let’s explore some of those options the instead of thinking that the strategy devised in 2009 is ever going to work.
And yes, there is a lesson there. Hawks moved from tiny old Glenferrie to PP in the north which was more modern and twice the size. Their comparable crowds dropped by about 1/3...
24 rounds would mean another neutral round so you can play nine games in NSW/Qld/Tas instead of the rediculous round zero with only four games. Day games in Tas also solves the heat problem.
376 at the ALW proves that the Matilda bandwagon has no bearing on the sport and any other level. It might get more girls playing, but the AL has come and gone.
So am I. That is why change is needed. It is clearly not gaining any traction. Top of the ladder and 8k. That is unheard of.
And I have made many suggestions in the thread. Don’t get my wrong. I want it to work. It just isn’t.
Yeah nah. 8k at an AFL game is a disaster. Game would have no atmosphere. Do we just accept this indefinitely? What is that definition of insanity again?
