Found out the other day that Mal Michael wanted to play in the international cup for PNG in 2002 but the AFL said no. Can you imagine if they said yes walking up to Leigh Matthews saying 'Hey Leigh I know we're chasing back to back flags but I'm just taking a couple of weeks off to play for PNG'
Its understandable the AFL wamting kore teams but also understand why India feel a bit hard done by. In there eyes there putting a lot of effort into growing the game in there own country and then Pakistan there arch rivals only bring a handful of players from Pakistan. I heard there was a match...
Yeah thats what I'm saying but apparently you are only allowed 12 local based players on the field at any time and I don't know if that is being very well policed
India v Pakistan in Bendigo on Friday night was fantastic apart from the result. Huge crowd great atmosphere music during the game, traditional Aussie footy favourites as well as curry available. School kids created banners for both teams. Only thing that seems a little unfair is most of the...
Had Fiji wom it would have been the biggest upset in International cup history mens ir womens. Canada meant to walk straight into the final and Fiji meant to struggle. Great to say David Rodan helping out the Fiji girls.
Biggest upset was GB beating South Africa. Previously GB have had nig nodies but lacked skill, something they seem to have addressed this year. Things seemed to have platued in South Africa since the reduction of AFL funding.
funnily enough the televised the very first one which was taken a lot less seriously then now and was a lot worse standard.
Belive this time it is streamed online though
is Financial reasons the reasons why they are not here this time?
I notice there is no representation from Scandinavia where as previously we have had up to 3 teams from the region. Is footy struggling over there?
Nauru are actually quite good have beaten much bigger countries such as GB. Little known fact is Nauru is the only other country in the world where our game is the number 1 sport (I believe its number 2 behind league in PNG).
Jason in some countries like the USA and Europe yes its going to be a lot more difficult but I think in Asia, the pacific the sub-continent and South Africa we can have a lot more success
South Africa only have 3 big sports Soccer, Cricket and Rugby and the game has made some real inroads there...
The 2017 AFL international cup kicks off at Royal Park in Melbourne this Sunday. For those that don't know is basically the World cup of our great game minus Australia.
The standard continues to improve and if we really believe our game is the best game in the world we need to get serious about...
Take your point. It depends on what your talking about though. Putting a team there no way but all you need to do is look at Mal Michael and Nic Nat to see the talent there. If you could get a home grown player from Fiji it would really grow interest.
I am all for growing our game but is Asia the right place?
I think South Africa should be number 1. The game is already growing there and they only have a few sports so plenty of room for another.
The Pacific islands are also worth exploring further. Our game is the no 2 sport in PNG and no 1...
