Agree. That's not what I'm saying though. There are lots of people in Qld who have taken an interest in AFL. The ones who haven't though just give you a blank stare. I very rarely hear a disparaging comment.
I heard a lot more disparaging comments about Rugby League when I was l living in Victoria than I do about AFL living in Queensland. The comments I have heard are about not understanding the game and given the inconsistency with umpiring these days they have a valid point.
CQ has been close to securing an NRL license on several occasions and it is really only a matter of time.
I agree that an AFL team is unlikely. If the Gold Coast struggle to retain players then Central Queensland is even more likely to do so.
But if CQ is given an NRL license it's highly...
As a Central Queenslander I think that whoever out of the AFL and the NRL puts a team in CQ is going to get a huge advantage over the other. CQ covers a huge untapped market in Queensland: Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Mackay. CQ is desperate for a professional team and will jump on...
This is the NRL ladder atm.
All 3 Queensland teams down the bottom. Now is the time to strike. I love seeing the Broncos down the bottom. It's just a pity that it's my Bulldogs that are stopping them from being dead last.
Slightly OT but Metricon is a horrible stadium to get to. When Essendon played there a few weeks ago I had to park at a shopping centre about twenty minutes walk away.
It's why Southport should have been elevated to the AFL. A rich historical club with an existing base of supporters. From memory there was a particular reason that they couldn't but it would have been a much more viable option.
Victorians are hilarious. When a Victorian team like Melbourne or Carlton struggles, "Let's give them all the support they need". If an interstate team struggles, "Let's get rid of them". Hate to break it you but if the AFL want a truly national comp they need two teams in the third largest...
The Gold Coast has always been a graveyard for sporting teams. The Titans in the NRL are in the exact same position. However I think if they persist they will eventually come good. They may have been better off turning Southport, an already successful Gold Coast club, into an AFL team, but too...
Queensland does not have the grassroot level support or interest to support two teams. NRL is a religion up here. They need to merge the Lions and Suns, perhaps call them the Queensland Suns, and keep the Lions jumper. Play most of the games at the Gabba with a few at Metricon each year.
A team in North Queensland would actually do a lot better. There is huge support in NQ and to a lesser extent CQ for AFL. CQ is desperate for a professional sports team. If the AFL get in first they would have a market. Central Queensland Mudcrabs. Make it happen.
Central Queensland Mud Crabs.
A pipe dream but it would be a better prospect than a lot of other suggestions. Split the games between the three main cities, Rockhampton, Mackay and Gladstone. Each has a population of around 100,000 people. It is also one of the fastest growing regions in the...
This. Sydney is an attractive destination as it still has all the big city perks while being able to remain fairly anonymous. Perth is too far away. Adelaide is... Adelaide.
