People rave about the MCG... and with good reason... but I don't think as a stadium it has the best atmosphere in the AFL...
Because of the small size of the playing surface and the compacted incline of the stands... the SCG has the by far the greatest atmosphere... the crowd noise echoes and...
Great idea.
Though very expensive.
Will there be a Legends Stand anywhere?
For $150m you at least want to provide a serious third stadium in Melbourne.., not just a nice training facliity.
Yeah you're right... And I like the fact that it's actually not just stuck in the middle of nowhere... (like Metricon)
There's plenty of pubs nearby so you can meet up before the game... (or retire to if the cricket finishes early)... Families can kick the ball around Raymond Park (or Pineapple...
Very true.
The Dean Bros need to come in the middle of the night and bulldoze a whole heap of seats.
Going to the footy or cricket is a social event for many people and while no one wants a return to the 'messy' bad old days of the hill... some freedom of movement would be nice...
Coorparoo is a former QAFL club that was purchased by the Lions. Yeronga is the HQ of the QAFL... both facilities are pretty good...
BUT...
Springfield is a growth area... it's booming... the train station there is huge...
There's even a lagoon at the shopping centre
Poor old Coorparoo...
Well two obvious choices - Coorparoo and Yeronga.
Especially if looking for the dual ground config.
But politics rules I guess and the $$$ lures the club outside of Brisbane. Just like when the Bears played in the Albert Shire.
They tried standing room behind the benches for a while... which was a good idea (a lot of people like to stand and mingle on the Stanley Street side of the ground).
80,000 would be amazing for a Derby - the place would rock...
But I'd hate to think how cavernous the place would feel on other occasions - say for the BBL or ODI.
If you're going to build another tier - put out a tender for some tarps as well... it's be the top of Mount Davis all over again.
