The hockey stick in Adelaide is just nuts. My house earned more than I did last year and I have a great job.
How did we so thoroughly destroy this country?
You're right, it's hard to find an equivalent really. But adelaide metro includes Elizabeth and Salisbury. I don't know if you've ever been there but I would imagine that's fairly equivalent. Rest of adjacent isn't exactly the Riviera in terms of reputation either.
In not arguing there's going...
Yeah I think we're at a point where the only thing we can do to make Australia globally competitive is to just intervene on the supply side and build until there's an oversupply. Once we do that and the cost of living is low enough then we might be able to start growing the economy for something...
Building costs definitely lower and wages lower, but how much do they get away with lower wages because of a low cost of living driven by low housing cost? Can be a bit circular.
I think you probably wouldn't have to go that far back in time to find Adelaide real estate substantially cheaper...
Greater metro Austin is near double the population of Adelaide at 2.3 to rads 1.3. They have a gdp per capita in Austin that is more than double Adelaide's at 84k USD per citizen there to ours 60-odd AUD per citizen

I live in Adelaide and the population, density, gdp per capita etc is roughly similar.
The quality of house I could have there is insane compared to what is here

They'll ease them slowly and after what they've been through everyone will be super vigilant on taking precautions. Can't see it just up and restarting
Ah I see, yeah that helps but also I think that regardless of how close the apartments are they still have walls. People still congregate in shipping centres and buses etc
They will need to help cover rent for people who work casual. I don't work in hospitality anymore but if I did and you told me that I had to miss rent and out of food then it'd just lie and say I wasn't quarantined
I think though we're actually far more urbanized than Italy. Google tells me 86% of Australians live in large cities compared to 70% of Italians. Far better demographics though you're right.
I just think Australians have a long tradition of telling the government to get stuffed and so people...
