Society/Culture Your favourite philosophical thought experiments

This was part of a movie which rejigged it but You hit a button and gain $1 million. Only thing is on hitting the button someone somewhere in the world will die. Now it could be a new born baby a young adult on the cusp of life ready to be a humanitarian and create world peace. Or an evil...

Society/Culture Has cancel culture gone too far?

Rightly or wrongly they had issues with the integrity of the electoral college. Now that matter was taken to court and resolved under US law. However those arrested will have their day in court which raises a whole other issue. https://www.usatoday.com/storytelling/capitol-riot-mob-arrests/...

Absolutely spot on. But those marchers and protesters on the street are protesting against something. It didn't come out of thin air. And that also required equal organisation and funding, even if just to control the narrative.

    Covid-19 Wuhan Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Part 4 - Ivermectin doesn't work either.

Mate Victoria which supposedly last winter was at deaths door has started letting in international students. 700+ cases a day and covid+ influenza deaths were equivalent to any other year. Racing footy etc still went ahead. Yet 200 or so active cases in the whole country and its shut down.

This was obvious a year a go. When it was predicted we would need border passes, papers etc everyone thought that was nuts. You can not say with a straight face these rules make sense are consistent or based on sound public policy. This is ongoing there is no end point.

Then we have different ideas on harmonious. Perhaps a better word would be little disenfranchisement as possible and as inclusive as possible. Dictatorships like China still benefit a few so they can enforce. Their middle class or rich certainly back their social credit system. The Ungurs may...

Modern politics and debate. Nothing anymore is about strength of argument or anything evidence based. Just virtue signalling and or motherhood statements. Covid Trump are examples

True in life unfortunately. Answer is in your post. Most sensible people get sick and tired of arguing with extremists and emotional terrorists. So they find their niche and drop out giving the extremists what they want. Unfortunately that validates extremist behaviour so this have no motivation...

Everyone knows this just like if some evolutionary traits aren't checked it leads to chaos. The debate is about how you corral men and women's different evolutionary traits to create a harmonious society.

I'm just laughing at the irony of a bunch of dudes on a footy forum debating what women want. But seriously the data indicates women tend to go for someone who earns equal or higher. Also rich famous men have an abundance of choice. I guess Peterson's argument is for a functional society you...

That's because a lot of Trump's policies while not socialist were certainly protectionist. Liberal left right politics is over. It's based on form an identity and tribe and conform to their dictates. It's about proving your a better person than your ideas.

This is true but the whole discussion is from a academic perspective. People are a lot more complex and driven by subconscious traits hormone mood and perceptions. Also by how they're perceived. What's thee saying the greatest lies we tell are those we tell ourselves. A lot of people men and...

Not at all. The poster claims there is a price attached (look who women are attracted to most men know there is a hierarchy of sorts by 12). Just find it odd then woman are confused there are now cheap and easy options. Of course there are. That's evolution at work. Like if lobster costs $80 a...

Interesting how you describe the price of sex. To spite all the openness around it and availability you are saying it is something women sell to men and there is a price attached. To use economic terms the cheap and easy sex is a market correction. Tinder hook up culture escorts etc are a market...

I honestly think there is more to it. A woman can't assess a man's wealth (I know there's more to it but I'll simplify) unless she has his bank details not a man assess fertility (again simplistic) unless medical details. So what both genders do is look for traits. Attractions are established...

Depends what you mean. Women partner up down and sideways all the time. It is basically attraction which has no intellectual element. If you're arguing who women settle with and marry then yep I'd agree. Also part of a point Peterson made. Impossible to know what each individual likes but look...

If the drug addict is genuine they would have far more understanding of avoiding pitfalls and overcoming the addiction then a Maude Flanders type who may mean well but just doesn't have the depth of understanding

Correlation doesn't equal causation. Are poor women breeding because they're dumb or they want kids? An alternate theory is educated women have more wealth and options so don't want the sacrifices associated with a family. Especially if they can't find a mate as you posted above. When discussing...

All these people need is a buzz word or catch phrase. Honestly people will believe anything. As long as the right person tells them. They could take a look outside, get some fresh air, do some reading, even just admit life is ****ed. But no Dan or Mark or Sco Mo says something or a paid for...

It's the attack on independent thought and this whole mob comply mentality. Yeah have a free society just as long as we agree. The people right at the pointy end of bureaucracy and government take otherwise noble causes (aboriginal rights and recognition, gay rights, need to fight a virus etc)...

Add to that people are just desperate from praise from authority rather than investigating for themselves and finding purpose. We all need validation as we are human but f me. Some people would do a rain dance naked in the street if they believed it was a cure.

The Law Whose land are you occupying?

Interesting topic. On one hand Iook at trees and grass and rivers around me and think it's absolutely ridiculous that anyone can think they own it. Yet in the other hand shelter and home is a fundamental part of human needs. And there is no doubt the British Crown at the time simply took...

Show me proof where one person has infected hundreds of others in a day. Name of the person, proven contacts and subsequent positive tests. Otherwise this is unfounded garbage.
