If they were looking for a new name - I guess he would be perfect. But I don't think there is much precedence in changing the name of a medal or trophy in world sports. If it was going to be done, it should have been done in 1990 when the VFL became the AFL. Too late now...
This. As a Canberra resident I've attended GWS games but I think they'd have peeked too soon if they won tonight. Dogs win is good for the league. GWS will still get a healthy boost in crowds and membership.
This game was heavily promoted with discount/free tickets on Groupon. Possibility that people obtained tickets who were not really interested in the game. Having said that, still looked and sounded great on TV. What this derby is only lacking now is a really close nail baiting game right to the end.
Unless the away team is Sydney, Spotless will be fine. They'd still do well to sell it out.
If the Swans - I suppose ANZ is still available as an oval before they reconfigure it in a few years time.
Going forward, once they build up their average crowds to 20k and start turning people away at...
I posted on the other thread that I think it will be a good thing overall (interestingly Tony Shepherd who is the chairman of the SCG Trust is also the chairman/president of GWS).
This gives the Giants a chance to build a supporter base out in the west. Spotless looks a good stadium (havent...
The Hun are reporting this as well: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/former-news-limited-chief-executive-kim-williams-joins-afl-commission/story-fni5f22o-1226829208189
Excellent move IMHO. According to the limited media currently available, he has been brought in with an eye on the TV...
Wont happen because the AFL is not dominant EVERYWHERE like NFL is in the states. If the Rugby codes never existed and AFL was as popular all over Australia as it is in Victoria, then you'd have a case.
If the grand final is played as per normal at 3pm - its prime time...somewhere in the pacific. in other words...nowhere. In the states it starts around midnight and in Europe at the crack of dawn. If they decide to play it prime time, then in most of the world....its day time. Makes sense.
Big difference between the NRL and AFL grand finals. NRL grand final barely sells out. AFL Grand final could be sold out twice over easy. AFL grand final out rates the NRL grand final even though one is held on a Saturday arvo and the other on Sunday prime time. Fact is, if the AFL was as...
There is one solution that could work. Play the AFL grand final Sunday twilight. It would not be impacted by any other sporting events. It would get just as good ratings as on Saturday night as most people would be home given next day is a working day. Start the game at 5pm. By half time, its...
Well 7 is the only FTA broadcaster and they of course do the RCH appeal although although it is Melbourne only. From memory, I think North and Carlton initially wanted that day for a game between the 2 clubs. So they could rattle the tins outside the MCG etc.
Otherwise, if 7 did not want to cut...
Good Friday will happen once Demetriou is gone (possible end of this year I reckon). Will be a night match and obviously tied to Royal Childrens Hospital Appeal for the feelgood factor. Seven will televise and cross back to the tally room during the quarter and half time breaks.
Would be good...
Latest from the Age - looks like Goddard v Saints pencilled in for Round 4
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/goddard-grudge-match-likely-for-round-four-20121015-27md9.html
There was no point to that post - just like there is no point to anything you write. I have given up trying to reason with you...you don't seem to respond to any form of intelligence.
Poor little troll
Poor little troll.
He just can't handled the fact that the AFL is the biggest, richest, most attended, most watched and most [insert just about any meaningful criteria here] sport in the country. It makes responding to him so easy!
Poor little troll
Yep the Storm have some good form there. Their own CEO admitting it.

Geez lighten up! You are one very angry little troll aren't you;)
Here is a link of the Titans handing out free tickets in their "heartlands" lol
http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2012/03/15/399771_gold-coast-titans.html
And just a week later they were at it again...
AFL gives out free tickets in their developing markets - nothing wrong with that.
NRL gives out free tickets in their heartlands (e.g. Titans - and that was not targeted at kids - that was for EVERYONE). Can you spot the difference? Fool
Agree it could be trialled - they've been trialling Monday nights (and looks like there will be more MNF next year).
Disagree about Demetriou staying - don't get me wrong I think he is the best sports administrator in the country by a mile and would love him to stay - but AFL chairman Mike...
Melbourne Storm have been playing on Friday nights for years now. With 7 mate, it is not as undesirable as it once was - so I expect a decent TV audience (as well as Foxtel of course).
All FTA games in Sydney are on 7 mate as part of the broadcast agreement. Not ideal but is FTA and its live. Certainly beats last year when the games were on after midnight.
http://www.afl.com.au/broadcast%20guide/tabid/9451/default.aspx#locd=NSW - Sydney&round=Round 13
I think it will eventually happen but the AFL will keep it up their sleeve for the next rights deal (so not for another 4 years). Night Grand Finals too. By then Vlad should have well and truly left the building. 2 games would be ideal. North v Hawthorn, (during the afternoon) and perhaps the...
First of all his name is spelled Gallop. Second of all, what position would you put him in? Demetriou will be there for a while yet and, love him or hate him, is by far the best sports administrator in the country. If Gallop was looking for an easy and cushy AFL job, you could put him in legal...
