Taking this to its logical extension, if Collingwood's home kit is black then that is the one colour that should be ruled out of the clash/alternate. Pretty simple.
My biggest concern is that they will try to remove walk-up completely, especially for grand finals.
Anyway, starting a petition is a better solution than the 20 people I saw queued up complaining at the club office about 15 mins before the start of Melbourne v Hawthorn. The poor girls on the...
I don't mind the distinction that Collingwood make. I am an MCC member and pay MFC club support to also make me an MFC member. At Melbourne that does classify me as a voting member, but if the MFC constitution has a similar provision to Collingwood it would be hard to disagree with the fairness...
Gary Pert is thinking miles ahead of you.
What brings in the most $ for clubs? Premierships.
Where is the grand final played? MCG.
Where does the MFC CEO want the club to play as many games as possible? I'll leave you to connect the dots from here.
Sick of broadcasters using footy talk show talking heads to try and push their point of view on the fixture. Embarrassingly transparent that they're not really concerned about what's good for footy (for example the fan who might want to attend a game never comes into it) but instead are solely...
In 1946 Melbourne played three finals and Mueller was probably best on in two second best on in the other. Meanwhile Don Cordner was not in the best in any of the three. So Cordner could conceivably have been ahead of Mueller in the B&F after the H&A season. Cordner was named "Most Brilliant" by...
Oh when you were talking about the second tier you meant this hypothetical AFL reserves not the WAFL/SANFL?
I agree that flying reserves interstate every weekend will cost significant $ but if the AFL is already saying they will pay travel costs for the 14 Eastern clubs' reserves plus...
What would change in that situation? If hypothetically WCE and Freo had their reserves playing in an AFL reserves comp rather than in the WAFL, would that negatively affect the WAFL? I'd think the WAFL would operate much as they are this season with 9 clubs. And someone like Tim Kelly would have...
If you're going to have 14/18 clubs in what will essentially be a reserves comp you may as well get the other 4 clubs and make it an AFL reserves competition. The fixturing will be easier that way too, you just match up to exactly what the senior AFL team is doing that weekend.
Can the government not just compulsorily acquire the rights to the flag? Waiting until 70 years after the guy has died and it goes into the public domain doesn't seem like a great solution.
I would have more sympathy for the creator / owner if he wasn't on-selling said rights to some...
Why do they so often push up a forward so they have an outnumber at the contest? It means whenever they win it the opposition always has a loose in defence. It might make some sense if your midfield is weak but theirs is stacked.
Seems like a basic coaching issue and a big reason why they...
You're right about when the Leighoak Club was sold. From memory, it was profitable for the club but only because of pokies and the decision was made to exit from them. I think the profit was generally between $500k - $1m per year. So with pokies it was a good business, without them it would not...
While I agree with you, I think many in the media who have been asking the question have been doing so in a rhetorical manner to emphasise how farcical it is that "AFL Media" has been trying to portray itself as independent (in a journalistic or editorial sense). This is simply a good example...
This is true and it's the AFL Commission's fault. Firstly because they select the CEO. But mainly because they don't incentivise them (and other execs at AFL House) correctly. You can tell that the big ticket items for their bonuses are media rights $$ and participation numbers. To the...
Yes, the club had to increase what is essentially guaranteed yearly revenue in order to secure such a large loan at a decent rate.
The same thing happened around 2005 with the redevelopment of the northern stand. It's also why the upgrades to full membership have slowed to a trickle over the...
The Southern Stand cost approx $150m. The AFL tipped in $1m per year while it was being built. The rest was financed by the MCC as far as I'm aware, not sure if there were also some government grants. To claim that the AFL members paid for it is a stretch.
