(Ahem) the AFL didn’t “let” Barry Hall play in the GF. They were forced to by the Swans taking them to court.
Swans hired one of the best QCs in the country to show them that as the rule stood, Hall had no case to answer. Unsurprisingly the AFL changed the rule as soon as they could.
I’m no...
Thanks mate, I rate you too, but I'm not being a dick here.
Not that anyone on here was to know it, but the other week I was posting images on the Swans board showing that our Braeden Campbell most certainly did deserve his one-match suspension.
So it's not about partisanship. I just have...
Well, no, it hasn't.
I'm aware of two bits of fan footage from behind the goal umpire - one in which the ball partially disappears out of frame at a crucial point and is thus then useless (though it didn't stop Channel 7 running it with the caption that "this shows once and for all the umpire...
No, that is not definitive footage, and no, we can't see daylight between the ball and the goal at every point, because at one point the goal post is blocking our full view of the ball.
It certainly looks like a goal, and I have always said that.
But do you understand the crucial difference...
Um, we're the one playing finals, so I'm not really doing a lot of chewing at this moment.
Sorry, that was unnecessarily cruel, but you are just being so absurd about this.
Just repeatedly saying "The AFL says the goal umpire was WRONG, and I don't know about you pal, but that's good enough...
Ah but the technology didn't show that, did it?
What you just can't admit to yourself is we've seen all the AFL's official footage and none of it definitively shows (look that word up and make quite sure you know what it means; one day when you're over 18 you may be called to serve on a jury in...
Ah yeah, big font size in bold will win any argument.
Frankly it terrifies me to think you might serve on a jury one day.
So you can't point me to the AFL's footage that definitively shows the umpire was wrong. OK.
Again, tell me which part of my post # 1941 above you're having trouble...
And I'll just remind you that a few posts back you were claiming that no game in AFL history had ever been decided by a controversial umpiring decision until last Saturday.
I know McLachlan is saying it.
You don't think an organisation that was willing to slap a whopping two year trade ban on an entire club for doing nothing but exercising their legitimate right to sign a player would think twice about throwing a widdle goal umpire under the bus?
So, again...
So..... even though none of their official footage showed it was a goal, you say the AFL "declared it was a goal", but for some reason have chosen not to release the footage that shows it was a goal. OK. Strong argument.
LOL yourself. Serious question.
All official footage I've seen is not definitive. Goal post in the way, ball in the way, frame rate too low etc.
We would need official footage, not fan footage (and not stills, which are useless due to the parallax effect) from behind the umpire's head, where...
That's ridiculous. Obviously you haven't been watching AFL for very long.
Just checking, has any official footage emerged yet that categorically shows the umpire got it wrong?
I can’t see any part of my post you’re replying to that I can make any clearer. Read it again very slowly and make sure you understand the words I am saying.
The ump was in a better position to adjudicate that goal than any official camera from which footage has been released.
It very much...
Yeah look I’m absolutely not saying the W is all crap. There are some great moments. I’m all for it.
Simply setting out, as a supporter with a busy outside life, the sort of time and energy decisions I have to make.
PS yes I’m sure Sydney will be much more competitive this year, but scoring...
I hope so. I’m just being honest at this stage and saying I really can’t say how I’m going to feel. People engage with footy in varying degrees. For me with the men’s, it’s going to games when I can, watching them on telly when I can, shooting the schitte about the footy on BF. But that’s about...
I'm getting tired of repeating myself. There are numerous official videos showing it certainly looks like a goal. I agree it certainly looks like a goal.
There are zero official videos definitively showing the umpire was wrong. Look up "definitive" if you are in any doubt as to its meaning.
In...
I can only give myself as an example as a counter to that, but FWIW…
I truly love the club I support, but I am pushed for time in my life and already don’t get to nearly as many Swans men’s games as I like.
I have resolved to see a couple of AFLW games this season and am looking forward to...
Well I really don't want to buy into this controversy but my take on it is that one crucial fact being mostly ignored is the goal umpire was in a near-perfect position.
And while lots of footage shows it looks like it might have been a goal, none of it shows categorically shows he was wrong, so...
You still haven't answered my question - what about all the other dubious umpiring decisions that occurred (both ways - like in any game)?
You really haven't thought this through.
And how do you propose they do that?
Do they then backtrack through all the other dubious umpiring calls that had occurred both ways in the game, like in every game?
