theres nothing supposedly about it being a national comp. And The rights have never been tendered. And the benefits was largely to a stadium that benefited the league as a valuable asset. It was literally in the leagues interest to do so, even if it wasnt in the clubs.

The WA Government wouldnt have give the AFL a dollar this far in advance or for Marvel upgrades. They key phrase is "marvel upgrades". Not 2 decades away they wouldnt. They got what they needed for the aim that they had, plus more.

Well for the Commonwealth Games main stadium. It wasnt part of any other funding agreement. The grand final extension was all about timing. The AFL needed money for the upgrade to Docklands and blind freddy could have seen that the VicGov would tie it to this. No one else was going to bid 20...

Fixture Gather Round - SA announced as host for next 3 years 2024-2026

One of the reasons for the Junction oval rebuild was to allow for some flexibility on this. If the Vic Government wanted to host an early season Gather Round, theres not much Cricket can do to stop it.

AFL Looking At 3 Gather Rounds

Im of a firm belief that we should get two gather round type things a year - rotate one through WA/SA and the other through QLD/NSW. Three is overkill, Victoria doesnt need one, and Tasmania is a long way off Problem is they have to be done early in the year while fans still have energy and hope.

Clubs and Players seem ok with the revenue split they get from the 15m that the SA Government is paying for a round of footy.

AFL Looking At 3 Gather Rounds

Stability yes. Growth not so much. Clubs and players want more money every year. The AFL wants more metrics to boast about in the media and to sponsors and broadcast parters. Everyone wants a piece of a pie that may or may not be finite in nature. And then the inevitable comparisons with our...

AFL Looking At 3 Gather Rounds

The only reason Adelaide is in hibernation from June is because theres nothing on. The people travelling here for this arent for the most part, the same demo as the people here for the festivals.

Fixture Gather Round - SA announced as host for next 3 years 2024-2026

Pies/Blues wouldnt be played during a gather round. Rich/Syd would never go to Optus Oval - and theres no good reason for them to use it as long as they use the MCG and Marvel, probably GMBHA/Mars too. Moot point, this wont go to vic any time soon.

384,000 people registered to play junior and senior community club football in 2023, beating the previous high set in 2019

As the season concludes and premierships have been won, it’s worth recapping how many people have been associated with community football in 2023 because the game is about so much more than on-field success: More than 200,000 volunteer roles have been taken on in the name of driving community...

No, it just is what it is. Grand Final has almost always been at the MCG, except during War, Pandemic and the Southern Stand rebuild.
  28. The_Wookie

    Opinion VICBias - Genuine Discussion

Ideally, yes. But the nature of the way the league was formed, and the contracts signed, and the relationships with governments formed over a century or so of history, mean this is fundamentally not going to change.
