Man, this is BS. All Luko said that his preferred position is forward. Not that he does not want play where the coach wants him. Should he lie? Journos and some people here just run with this s**t. Now journos say Lukos was shaken by rumours and asked for clarifications/assurances from the club...
Adjusting points and limit or remove discount should do it. I would probably also change how many bids can be matched in the first round. Top 4 teams from 1 to none and 5-8 teams from 2 to 1 match. But this rule should apply the same way for F/S which I think there is no chance to happen...
You may want to remove Suns from the list.
Suns past 5-10 years - B Ellis, Constable, Young, J Anderson, Townsend, Hallahan, Horlin-Smith, C Ellis, Weller, Atkins, T Berry, Wigg, Hombsh, Barlow, Currie, Witts (probably not a complete list).
Hm, you said a quality list -> Witts, Weller.
Suns a...
It will be no different to standard trade period. Only in MST teams will have to overpay. Lions will have no problem to attract players like they did in past 5 years or so.
One could argue finals bound team will benefit but they will have to pay up. If player decides to leave the club it really...
I am pretty sure players under contract will not be able to move without club's permission. Anyway, let's see. As for Ben, why would Suns agree to trade him mid-season without extra value.
Club tries to lure players regardless of MST. It's all about creating environment to retain players, winning culture. if player wants to leave he will. Mid season trade will have no impact on it. You ignore the fact that the club will have to agree to a trade as player is under contract. At...
I don't think you presented compelling arguments for me. That's OK. Different opinions. At the end, clubs can say no, so hardly pillaging. Clubs would have to offer significant overs.
Just simple example. Let's say Suns will know that Ben will leave at the end of 2024. Why not to let him go at...
I bet some players would move to Lions and so on under advantageous conditions. Don't forget that a lot of trades are work in progress for a couple of years. So what's the big deal for player leaving mid-season or at the end? Essentially 3 months difference.
Why not? If they get offered a longer contract on good money and a chance to play finals I bet some would go for it. Family can move 3 months later or whatever especially if move cost is covered etc. AFL has 1 year to work out details.
Why? Clubs would have to pay massive over if it would be a good player and it would be teams having a chance to play finals not only Vic clubs. If player would leave anyway at the end of season at least clubs would get more for him at MSD. Obviously, clubs could still say no as players are under...
It looks like it's based on current point system. E.g. double points value for pick 1 and you are only half way there. Half value from pick 30 and it would get even more difficult to match. It would force team to come up with earlier picks.
Also not realistic to make so many trades :)
Also...
I would be surprised if AFL sets limit on number of used picks to match. Properly set up curve should handle it by forcing teams to get earlier picks to match. I would like to see some modelling, test cases with different curves.
It does not matter how much bla, bla, bla - the fact is that Collingwood benefited from F/S and NGA way more than Suns from academy. Not even close.
Interestingly, all those big clubs who wanted to boycott bidding on Suns academy kids completely ignored that Suns don't have F/S. Why not to...
From GC point of view Collingwood fan concerns about academy advantages are laughable.
Just compare Collingwood F/S and NGA players with Suns academy players on the lists over the Suns existence and their quality.
Don't forget that if Suns by some miracle finish one day top 4 they would be...
Exactly. Not sure why some people want to restrict it to fringe players. Teams would have to pay crazy overs for top players and teams could still say no like they can do now for players under contract. If player decides to go it does not matter if it's mid-season or off-season. At least at...
Looking forward for Ben King re-signing for 8-10 years then :)
Long-term security is only one factor. Plenty of top players extend only for a couple of years for various reasons. Obviously, being premiership contender helps. Just saying Olympics s***t could have an impact.
I would expect him to extend for only 2 years. I suspect 4-5 years Gabba re-build could have impact on Lions players future plans. No fun to play 4 years at Carrara, Cairns, Springfield or wherever instead of Gabba fortress. For Lions it's time to win premiership now (next 2 years).
Just keep it simple. Remove 20% discount. Modify picks points table values - increase values significantly for top picks and decrease significantly value for late picks. That would solve most issues.
NGA (IMO, mostly crap system brought in due to whinging from Vic clubs, not really needed...
