Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

I'm actually pretty pumped with Jack Sinclair ( 1st Rookie 2014 ) and here i was thinking Daniel McKenzie would be good.

Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

I just had a look at the 2014 verson of this thread. Interestingly i'm still not sure if most of the posters were wrong or right. But, yes it seems that Caleb Daniel WAS a very good pickup for the dogs.

Zero gamers at your club who will be guns

Saints had around 18 prior to the 2012 season. ( i think, some of them "may" have got an odd game ). Of the 20, we still have Ross, Newnes, Webster. ( guns?) and Minchington. Of the others, Mark Hutchings ended up at West Coats. Its what happens when you have so many players retiring there is...

Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

Come on , everyone knows that all the Essendon, and Collingwood players are A graders. Stuffed if i know why the teams are so s**t.

He was talked about earlier as well. Lots of discussions, Wright vs Petracca vs McCartin. Its amazing Collingwood didn't take him.

Even Jay Schulz showed a fair bit when given the right opportunity. Peter Wright is the one we really need to wonder about compared to Paddy. On a different note, i wonder if we'll get a look at Matthew Scharenberg this year.

Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

Those big blokes are such a risky investment. Its pretty easy to get a midfielder early in the draft , and even if they do become lack lustre you tend to have a few anyway. a) Its hard to get a good key position forward without getting an early pick. b) It can be a disaster if they don't work...

Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

Betts was probably picked late, because he's short. Yarran was picked early, just not as good as he was rated. Jade Gresham i'm very happy with. Raphael Clarke was picked early in a really crappy draft. He wasn't very good really, but there was no risk. His brother's only risk was injury...

Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

Statistically the early picks are better. That is not to say that the first pick is better than the second pick. An early pick can also be a total washout.

Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

You are entitled to draft the kid you think is best. Once drafting him you hope you are right. But the fact that you drafted him early does not make him better than if you didn't. It is in fact irrelevant. Yes Jack Watts may have got more games into him early, and Tambling may have had a longer...

Except they were pretty much taken where they were rated, and nothing has happened since the draft to change their ratings.

Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

So the clubs could all sack their recruiters and pick the players BigFooty thinks will be drafted and that will make them winners :D

Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

Every year for the last decade i have read how drafting is a much more exact science these days. Then they get Fyfe, Heeney etc in the second round. Cal Mills and Weitering were the most prepared to play AFL immediately.

Review Winners and Losers - 2016 AFL National Draft

Is this where we declare which 18 year old's will be most successful, and then declare the professional recruiters who disagree to be losers?

Because it is the case. Anyone who thinks Gil has anywhere near the vision and ability to see the "big picture" that vlad had is delusional.

    2016 Draft Rumours

Go to Wagga and there are tonnes who follow AFL. Not so many GWS supporters though  I'm sure the locals see it as AFL/GWS stealing their kids.

    2016 Draft Rumours

They really should balance what they lose next year , by going into deficit, against the player they can get this year. The last thing they need is another ordinary midfielder on their list.

    2016 Draft Rumours

Twomey has had his ratings out for weeks. Whats the point of a phantom with their own opinon, which no-one will know if its close for 4 years.

    2016 Draft Rumours

I'm not quite following. Are we suggesting that Sydney traded for pick 9, so that they could get Logue, based on knowlege at the time of trade week that Freo were set on English and GC on Brodie or Simpkin? Isn't it more likely that they thought they would get a better quality player ... ie one...

And after each pick they need to drink a shot. So the draft gets "more" interesting as it goes on.

Biggest mistake in the book. We need a "Tall/Pacey Wingman/etc etc " there are no good ones in the draft but lets pretend there is.

Yeah we had to go back to Brad Howard for that.

StKilda picked Nick Winmar purely because of his name. Boekhorst comes to mind more recently.
