Moved Thread The AFL should allow teams to trade points instead of picks

The whole draft could be an auction setup where clubs bid points for the rights to the next selection.

Given how bad people tell us we are, we must simply be happy to avoid the spoon. Whats that like?

    Emma Quayle's 2014 Phantom Draft

To be fair, they did rate those players highly and they could easily have gone top 10.

Who will? The dogs won't have pick 22.

    Stewart crameri

It probably would be, given the pick that's on the table is the dogs second rounder, which won't be pick 22.

What is a fair trade for Kurt Tippett?

I can't see the premiership side wanting to remove too many of its players by trade. And given Sydney's renowned culture, none of the players want to walk out. Have they got the picks to get the deal done? Jesse White and pick 21 doesn't sound like it would be enough, does it? What other...

Where would Caddy go in 2012

Wasn't traded? Sure, the suns could refuse to trade Caddy and force him into the draft. That's if they want to go through another mediation with the AFL sitting on their hands. And lose him for zero compensation whatsoever. There are no shortage of suitors for Caddy, and it would seriously...

Trade Week: The Rumour Mill Continues

Would have thought he'd approach the President, given his role with beyond blue. But then again, might have feared getting traded to North Melbourne.

    GWS Gift Tigers?

The thing is, the pick upgrade would still occur, albeit in the 3rd round instead of the first. Maybe GWS won't go that deep. Seems strange that they would give a team a leg up by letting them keep a second round pick for very little gain themselves. Maybe there is bad blood between...

Review Winners and Losers of Trade Week

Any long term concerns on the fact Collingwood have traded out of the last 2 drafts? I know they had a great 07 draft, and that these drafts have been compromised... but is there any concern about the potential 2yr gap in their list?

Bachar Houli wants out, to Richmond

No, thats his point. We have < 25yo on our list who we are expecting to do the same. Opposition supporters look simply at our results and say our list is rubbish and that we need to draft or trade a large number players to improve it. He is refuting them.

Bachar Houli wants out, to Richmond

Just. And now, after Hardwick's cleanout. Hence why you guys had a clean out and we do not need one. So as has been explained numerous times, and not once successfully refuted with anything close to resembling a valid supporting argument; Essendon do not seem to require an additional 3rd or...

Bachar Houli wants out, to Richmond

Or possibly Hird didn't bother. You seem to be pretty confident of what was said at the meeting. With only one de listing from our senior list and almost everyone else signed up, there is every likelihood Hird called the meeting to inform Houli that he was no longer a required player.

lions brennan to gc = rorting the system??

Gone through on the trade tracker. 5, 25, 27, a compensatory selection (end of round one), and Rohan Bewick for Brennan, 10 and 48.

    Buckley's Rubbish Kicking Test

Sorry mate, not having a go at you, just having a go at the Myers decision. You raise an interesting point I hadn't yet heard. The selection itself is an indictment on the recruiting staff.

Did Ross get it right with Luke, by not trading him to Collingwood?

You'd rescind a deal because you signed two players up during trade week, and their contracts would affect TPP. You would then have to re-negotiate Ball's contract to fit in line with the salary cap. Early on in the piece, I agreed with the St Kilda stance. However, Ross Lyon came out before...

    Andrew Welsh to the Pies?

Sorry mate :D, its the old resigns/re-signs confusion. I read it as "if Ball quits the saints", then nobody will cut your grass before pick 30 in getting him! Left me in confusion as to how you would draft welsh. There would be the PSD option, but you'd have to offer a contract that most of the...

    Andrew Welsh to the Pies?

Collingwood can offer Welsh whatever they want if they are going to take Ball at 30. Do you think the pies are in a position to make a play for Welsh with pick 62? If he goes into the PSD what makes you think he'll get passed the other clubs?

    The history of pickflation

I'd rather they increase list sizes and bring back the reserves. Would mean your young players could develop right under the supporters noses before getting unwarranted games just because your team has injuries. But that will never happen, unfortunately.

Burgoyne a hawk and Mark williams a bomber

Re: Burgoyne Deal Done Multiple picks the first 3 rounds are valuable, especially for a club like Essendon, who have had 2 retirees, 2 players leave through trade week and possible delistings to come. Its better to replenish your list with 2nd, 3rd rounders than fill the bottom of it up with...
