London and Sydney put their stadiums to appropriate use, in accordance to the money spent on them. Complete opposite of the QSAC proposal.
I have no idea why you're comparing the $1.6b QSAC proposal to a $400m college venue.
You went from "it will be a great 60k legacy stadium" to "it will be...
Non-sequiturs about the athletics stadiums for the Sydney and London Olympics are bizarre. Those venues have retained a high % of capacity post-Games, signed lucrative tenants, and constantly attracted major concert acts. None of that is going to happen with the QSAC proposal, but it'll still...
What are you basing all this on? The review says seating capacity of 40,000 which will then be downgraded to 14,000 after the Olympics.
"The Review Panel also notes that this legacy outcome essentially returns QSAC Stadium to its current functional state...".
In other words, the only long term...
Luguelin Santos got silver in the 400m at London. He ran in the heats for the mixed relay but not the final.
Only other medals they've won before these Games were in boxing and taekwondo. Picked up another in weightlifting here at Tokyo. All won by men, so Anabel Medina and Marileidy Paulino...
Not yet, but if all goes to plan they'll have an international venue there within the next few years as part of the upcoming Major League Cricket comp.
One yet to be mentioned is wakeboarding, which has been in the mix for a few years and I presume could be held in SEQ fairly easily.
There is an equal number of male and female events in gymnastics, by the way. Also, wrestling was initially dropped after 2012--it was re-added but with less...
I'm merely confident Docklands would be used. But I guarantee Metricon (probably at its 35k CommGames capacity) would host the medal matches. Queensland govt. isn't going to let a couple of Suns games get in the way.
Yeah that'd be 4 or 6 more than Darwin. But it's a pretty safe bet they will collectively host a quarter of the matches.
...that's why I said Docklands would be an option while the MCG/SCG/etc wouldn't be.
Are you even reading what you're responding to?
If cricket got in, there's no way it'd be played exclusively at rinky-dink regional venues. Not such a hard problem to solve though, keeping in mind the women's tournament at the CommGames next year will be 16 matches, 8 days, 1 ground.
The primary obstacle for the SCG, MCG, Adelaide Oval etc...
The relevant rule that I'm aware of doesn't mention "host country". Rather: "Host City itself, its neighbourhood or in the cities hosting other competition sites or their neighbourhoods".
Test cricket was played in Leeds (where no Olympic events were held, unlike Manchester or Cardiff) during...
Oh yeah them too. Plus the horses almost never bust a windmill like the b-boys (thank you, wikipedia).
I should also add the reminder that at one stage there was talk of ******* esports being included.
Dancing? That'll set your whole mind and body free. But seriously, who here has actually seen good "breaking"? It probably should just come under the umbrella of gymnastics. Worth watching once every four years. And a lot closer to capturing the Olympic spirit than a number of programme-clogging...
Ohhh I reckon some of you guys slept through seasons 1 and 2 of Australia's Greatest Athlete presented by Rexona. Billy climbs a mean rock wall!
How do you feel about Lance Franklin as the highest ranked AFL player?
I did mention upfront there was a personal bias at play here. So no, I'm not just picking people on athletic ability only. If I was still as enthusiastic about boxing as I once was, he'd be on my list.
Likewise, and rather ironically, the "score out of 10" sports have embittered me to no end...
What part of Erin Phillips' athleticism isn't freakish, though? Amazing body. Clearly very disciplined. Covers the ground well with speed, agility and endurance. Terrific hand-eye coordination. Excellent in the big moments. And she plays one of my favourite games in the world. What's not to...

Emma Snowsill – women’s triathlon
Debuting at the Olympics during my manufactured 30-year parameter and just in time to inspire a 19yo distance swimmer from the Gold Coast, triathlon was already a flourishing Aussie sporting tradition before Snowsill reflected it...
Yes, I've read the achievements, and was well aware of them before your post. To rephrase an earlier question, why (and how!) would I include somebody in the list I knew nothing about?
I don't get the feeling you are reading what I'm writing, though (for example: I clearly suggested Lauren...
And Shane Warne took 708 Test wickets. Great cricketer? Absolutely. My idea of a great athlete? Nope.
Lauren Jackson is objectively a great athlete according to the things I value (versatile/multi-level physical prowess, motor skills & co-ordination, mental toughness, proven winner & elite in...
I can tel you realy respect the guy, your research is obviouslly allot more thorough than mine because I never knew he won lle Tour de France.
It's a big echelon, I think all of the athletes I've chosen belong there.
Thanks mate, no real balls involved in this caper though, hence a lack of tough but skilled forum posters in my group of 30!
Fwiw I agree with your points in the last paragraph, and the fact I haven't put Emma Kearney (good cricketer, AFLW B&F winner) in this list supports that. However I know...
Weeeelll... I suppose you'll only be half-baffled then? But my earlier acknowledgement of Susie is very much a concession, of sorts.
Ok, good discussion so far. Now, I'm ready to present the case for my 20-11 rankings:

Lauren Jackson – women’s basketball
Always putting her gifts to good...
I think what you're getting at is something I touched on in the OP: how they win (and lose) rather than how many, etc. This is more subjective, and interesting/debatable, than pure success rates and accomplishments. The rest of my selections should give further context and insight into my...
School holidays and Gold Coast 2018 are upon us, hence comes the time and inspiration for my next project! I figured this board was the best place to start such a thread, given that a whopping 25 (not all but hey, close enough) of the selections have competed at an Olympics and/or CommGames.
I...
