From a neutral view, I think Bartel has had a better career than Hodge thus far. Hodge may be a more talented player, but injuries have held him back from being at his best consistently.
Did everyone hear Luke Power on SEN this morning? Was asked about the captaincy at GWS and asked about Tom Scully. He said 'If he can get his body right, he might be a leader down the track...' then quickly backpedaled and tried to change the subject when asked about what he meant by get his...
What we've gathered is both teams would pick their own, and the neutrals would pick Melbournes due to Trengove being the stand out of the 4 players.
It will be interesting to watch over time, as both sets of players are crucial to their teams pushing up the ladder, with Trengove and Ziebell...
My understanding was that compo picks were exempt from father son. So we will actually use our earliest pick (first round unless traded) to secure Jack Viney, and then also have another 2 first round compo picks AS WELL. Assuming we use all 3 picks end of this year, we could potentially end up...
To date, James Frawley has had the better of Jack Riewoldt. In Jack's Coleman winning year, Frawley stopped him twice and was All Australian at the other end of the field. So Jack at his best, and as the best forward in the league that year, was beaten in both encounters by Frawley. Fact...
Re: Would you choose a elite mid ala Ablett Jnr or Judd or would you prefer Franklin?
The game's won in the midfield, and we need more class in the midfield also, so I'd take Ablett. An elite mid would kick lots of goals too as Ablett has done for the last few years.
Re: Who Is the best Forward In the Competition
Pretty stupid and unbiased poll there :P Franklin is obviously the best, but Cloke is a better contested mark. He was a machine in 2011 marking everything that went near him! Franklin is magical though and is the best rounded package. All teams...
Considering Frawley dominates Reiwoldt repeatedly, I'll say Frawley :P
Both are guns and any team would gladly build their respective forward line or back line around them.
Re: ********* WHICH TEAMS WILL MAKE THE FINALS IN 2011? (Please Choose 8) *********
In no particular order
Collingwood
St Kilda
Geelong
Hawthorn
Melbourne
Carlton
Adelaide
Fremantle
They're all worthy. Scully, Watts and Kreuzer still too young to be judged properly, but all have shown signs they will be great.
Gibbs and Murphy had average years, but we've already seen them dominate and show why they went #1. Everyone else there is a star and an intergral part of their team.
How is this even an argument?! Frawley is clearly ahead atm, and Hansen has catching up to do for this to even be considered a contest. One is an All Australian at age 21, the other is a talent still finding his way. Until he does, or if he does, Frawley is the better player.
2010 Hodge has been the best player in the league. Swan is more consistent, but Hodge has been better and can be far more damaging with his disposal than Swan.
I'm a big fan of Hurley, but last night he wasn't great. He got outmarked by Henderson multiple times, and uncharacteristically turned the ball over when the game was still in the balance.
Trengove is going to be a brilliant well rounded midfielder in a few years time, in the Jimmy Bartel mould. He's my pick to be the best of those listed. He just doesnt have a weakness. He already gets the hard ball, knows when to make space, uses his body well already, and his disposal is top...
He spent a big chunk of his career playing as a tagger. During our more successful years early-mid decade he was generally tagging while Johnstone, Yze, Woewodin, Leoncelli, Bruce, Green etc all played the attacking roles through the midfield. He also spent time playing as a small defender in...
Weird comparison. Watson will surpass Mcdonald comfortably by the end of his career you would think. Mcdonald has had a fantastic career for a rookie lister though. Played the most games of any player drafted via the rookie list, captained his club and made All Australian. Pretty damn good...
The big man Jonno Brown is a delight to watch when he's up and going. Marks everything coming his way, and just monsters everything in his path.
Also love Jimmy Bartel. Think he's a class act, and always gets the job done no matter what role he's assigned. Seems a nice bloke off the field too.
Yeah Merrett isnt young. Def the best option there, but he's much older.
Warnock also isnt young. He took a while to establish himself, coming off the rookie list as a mature aged rookie.
I'd say Frawley (not listed) and Pears look like the best two. Thompson and Carlisle have also shown alot.
.....and there goes your credibility :o You either haven't bothered to watch him play, or are *ed.
Morton's played 40 games in his first two years, and they've been pretty bloody good. He hasnt been at the level of Judd or Selwoods first 40, but he's very near Gibbs at the same stage. To...
I'm not going to bag Brock because he left us. He's a good inside midfielder, and if he can get injury-free he'll be a great asset for Carlton going forward. Having both players would be ideal, as Brock is the work horse feeding the ball out, and Sylvia is shrugging tackles and banging it...
Gibbs is obviously ahead atm. He's a #1 draft pick who's had an extra season playing. He's a very talented player, and will likely be moving into the elite midfielders of the AFL very soon. You'd say he's a better kick, and more rounded player atm.
Cale however is more versatile. IMO he is...
I'd go with Dangerfield, as he feel he will be the more damaging player. Palmer reads the play well and works his ass off, but lacks abit of class and the proper skills to be as damaging IMO. Both will be good players assuming injuries dont ruin them.
