It's about more than just "he won a Brownlow".
From the time I made that post, Swan got even bettering 2011.
He kept up that level for years. He finished top 4 in the Brownlow 2010-2013.
He maintained his averages across all areas until struggling with injury in 2014, and then returned to...
I must have been drunk, or in a coma, when Goddard was considered a contender for the number 1 player in the game.
Also you vastly underrated Swam. I would argue he was in the top 2-3 players in the game from 2010-2011

watching goddard get outmuscled/outpositioned by gibbs at the end of the 3rd quarter was laughable. i dont think i've ever seen swan owned so badly in a one on one contest.
goddard is a very good player, but he's not in the same class as swan.
Ling torched Swan in the 2007 prelim?
cameron ling: 7 kicks, 2 marks, 8 handballs, 1 tackle, 1 behind, 1 free kick for.
dane swan: 20 kicks, 8 marks, 5 handballs, 3 tackles.
I might also add that swans average that year was 23.8 disposals, so statistically he actually had a better than average...
spend enough time reading these boards and you'd think that every player at collingwood is not as good as their equivalents at all other teams.
has collingwood won ANY of these polls?
swans best is very undersold.
one example that springs to mind was vs port adelaide this year when we were down by a fair bit at quarter time, his second quarter was sensational. i'd almost say he was the reason we won. finished the game with 39 disposals, how he didnt get the 3 votes was...
goddard clearly has better disposal and constested marking/physical presence
swan clearly better at finding the ball and runs faster and for longer. hence why he is such an accumulator.
both are rarely beaten one on one.
swan better for clearances
goddard better for versatility, can be used...
perhaps you've missed my original point.
Judd: 28%
Gibbs/Murphy:19%
Fevola: 14%
4 players got 80% of carltons brownlow votes
now compare to collingwood - 4 players got only 64% of the votes... a much more even spread, ie. much more competition for votes.
and say what you want about...
Welling ham's ferocious attack on the ball hasnt always been as prevalent as it was in the past season or so. There's nothing to suggest that Gibbs can't develop this area of his game.
That said, my opinion hasn't changed. Prior to 2010, you would have had Gibbs ahead, in 2010 wellingham...
he often plays an outside role, but also plays inside roles.
the general bigfooty belief seems to be that a player is either pure inside, or pure outside. no shades of grey.
wellingham is not pure inside, but he is not pure outside. he's probably slightly more outside than inside, but he...
