Looks like we drew the short straw this week, ladies and gents.

Short straw indeed. Clarko said in his press conference that Roughead will play 1-2 quarters. Hopefully he gets through okay. Positive sign having him back early. Still 'more unlikely than likely' to play round 1 though

If Roughy travels to Perth and plays his comeback game (albeit preseason) I'd be surprised on a ground not very forgiving for the legs. Think we'll see him at Box Hill for a half next week.

Disappointed that we're travelling to Perth considering we finished above them, but that's the cards we've been dealt...so on with it....if we send an almost Box Hill strength squad I couldn't blame the club (but would be disappointed for our Perth fans).

That said, tinkering with the squad too much could prove to be dangerous given we need to hit the road running for Rd 1 &2 given the formidable opposition we have drawn.

Obviously I speak only for me & not other Perth fans, but I would happily go to the game & not recognise a single face if it meant we were cherry ripe for Round 1. I couldn't care less if we only ran out with 10 players & 2 subs TBH.

I know someone has to play here but I think it's ridiculous that we are the team to do it & (obviously it's not random) I would like the club to question the rationale behind it (but of course they won't/can't...). As if the first 6 weeks of our draw wasn't punishment enough already...

Let's send over our B grade team to build up Freo's confidence for their first round clash.

Yep. Risk nobody.

Re: NAB Cup Round 4 - Fremantle v Hawthorn @ Paterson Stadium Sunday March 18th. Start time TBA.

Can we send a 2nd 22 squad and have the rest who were supposed to play (if it were in Melb like it should be), play for Box Hill so they still get a game and run around to help keep their fitness levels up and be match fit for rd1?

I guess the positive of playing this wk in Perth is that Haw. get the week off next week. Plenty of time to recover. So i can't see us sending a B Grade squad.

What a jip ! A perth practice match that means jack all, send a good team but just go half arsed and come back without injury. We are not playing for anything but some match fitness and disposal fine tuning. I'd be telling our boys to just see out the 4 qtrs without incident.

Re: NAB Cup Round 4 - Fremantle v Hawthorn @ Paterson Stadium Sunday March 18th. Start time TBA.

How about we send over a full squad, kick arse, declare our intentions for the year and squash any potential travel curse that will silence critics who think we can't win interstate...

Any word on whether this will be on foxtel ?

Being a major ground you'd think they would show it.

I know what you mean about building self-confidence Smith, but there shouldn't be too many people across the continent who aren't well aware of our intentions by now; &, as for silencing critics... Let them be critical - it means nothing when the 22 guys run across the white line & the first ball is bounced...

There are about 30 players + coaching staff who need to believe we can win interstate - the 22 million odd others can think whatever they want. I just don't think there is much to be gained from smoking a 2nd rate fremantle side in the heat.

* Did SLB say that there is a week break between this game & Rnd 1? If that is the case then maybe there is some merit in sending the whole side & playing with some heart. My opinions (above) are based on my understanding that there is no gap between this week & Rnd 1.

It better be. I'm having it connected this week.

Yep, for those those who don't play next week, they'll have to wait a further 2 weeks to play Round 1. I'm guessing Clarko will send over a 3/4 strength side.

I have been very reliably informed that we are playing on Friday instead of Sunday. At 6pm.

Thread title edited to reflect that fact.

Was just connected this week & yesterday's match was my first Foxtel live game. Looked pretty good I must say!

Not sure they'll show any next week though, now the "real" NAB matches are done n dusted? Can only hope...

Good result for us WA Hawks members who pay $200 to see 1 game of footy. I will be happy whoever they send but hopefully it's a good enough team to smash the dockers like last time.

Wouldn't worry too much about injuries either as other teams are playing on country grounds. And usually the issue with playing in Perth is backing up the next week which we don't have to!

I have probably thought about this too much but I think this game is a BIG F U from the AFL.

My theory is that they gave us an absolute dream draw in the NAB cup so we could win every game and make the final which would be at Ethiad or what ever that stadium is called these days.

We failed to deliver so they have sent us to Perth. Bit rough since we go there again in 5 weeks.

A few other random thoughts:

It will give the younger guys a taste of Perth before the real deal.

Wonder if clarko will confiscate phones for this trip!

Cant see Rough making the trip either.

We have ourselves to blame. Should have battered Richmond.

Can we and richmond send 'limited' teams to Perth and GWS (richmond)

Then play a box hill v coburg game at Box Hill (if not needed for cricket)

Clarko and Dimma would do that.

Cyril might need to go to Box hill city oval after all !!!

I dont get all this hate of travel, its only a few hours on a plane. These guys have travelled before you know, they do play outside of Victoria now and again...

Yeah I can see the argument from both sides. The real key is we have 40+ players available for selection and plenty of players have played plenty of footy already so we won't be pressured into giving guys games. The trip to Perth might mean we don't get up against Freo but it won't affect Round 1.

This is a great change if it happens. Has been stupidly hot over here of late, at least the night game will make things easier. Pretty pissed off we got given the Perth trip, not ideal preparation for R1 at all. Great for us WA folk, but would rather watches play on TV and have the game be at the G.

I don't think we should send over a strict 2nds side though. Getting smashed (if it happened) would not be good for the confidence of the kids in the side. Obviosly dont want to see us take a full strength side, but I think a decent amount of first team players should make the trip.

This also pretty much rules Roughy out of playing this week, which is a huge shame. Very much doubt the club would send him over, conditions would be too trying for his return match.
