GWS’ two oldest players on the weekend were the shuffling corpses of Shane Mumford (33) and Dawson Simpson (30). The next guys by age were journeymen Lachie Keefe (29), Sam Reid (29) and captain Phil Davis (28).

GWS had six guys aged 21-and-under: Tim Taranto (21), Brent Daniels (20), Harry Perryman (20), Sam Taylor (20) Bobby Hill (19), Jackson Hately (18).

Port’s 28-and-over guys were: Justin Westhoff (32), Paddy Ryder (31), Robbie Gray (31), Travis Boak (30), Tom Rockliff (29), Matthew Broadbent (29), Hamish Hartlett (28) and captain Tom Jonas (28).

Port had five guys aged 21-and-under: Sam Powell-Pepper (21), Joel Garner (20), Connor Rozee (19), Xav Duursma (19) and Zak Butters (18).

“Young group”

"Soon, these inconsistent young players will have any skill, flair, dash or goal sense beaten out of them, and they'll be as consistently woeful as the rest of the team. At which point we can blame the next lot of kids. In Ken we trust."

I don’t need to summarise those numbers and results into fancy graphs, do I.

No, but it would be interesting to see histograms of age and experience for each game, to compare distributions.

Are we missing a big chunk in, say, the 23-27 age range, compared to other sides?

The repeated selection of Sutcliffe over promising youth overrides any youth argument Kenny would have been entitled to. The stats are damn damning too.

But I'll need some fancy graphs and colours to really make sense of it. It'll help sell it to social media circles at any rate

On the weekend (which is largely reflective of the season as a whole), Ages 23-27;

Port: Howard (23), DBJ (23), Amon (24), Clurey (25), Lycett (26), Sutcliffe (27), S Gray (27)

GWS: Himmelberg (23), Finlayson (23), Williams (24), Whitfield (25), Tomlinson (25), Greene (25), Cameron (26), Lloyd (27), Haynes (27)

Absences: Traded Wingard and Polec, and have Wines, Motlop and Watts missing from our first team.

tribey I hope you saw my spreadsheet on page 328 of the Sack Hinkley thread, that I posted last week after Richmond game, with games played and average ages and saved yourself a bit of time typing up that info.

I missed it. Sucks to be me.

If that can be put into a fairly easy to read graph, tweeting it at the club would probably be a good idea given they keep leaning on how young we are.

As I posted in another thread, our last 5 losses have been against younger sides on the day.

How is this as a graphic to cut and paste rather than a graph with 3 categories

I am tired, so hopefully I have the correct figures. If not, please forget this ever existed:

Liked for the use of `damn damning.' :thumbsu:

To be fair Boak, Gray, Ryder and Westhoff all increase our averages by both age and experience by a fair bit.. without them we would be one of the youngest/inexperienced in the company.
All sides bar a couple, have a handful of players that are around the 200 game mark. That's why I put the column of 100+ games + 50-99 game for Port vs the oppo.

How they presented Ken Hinkley on Footy Classified has got me dumbfounded. A big player for the Carlton job, played the youngsters... supporters are harsh on him....etc

Adding to my bemusement was the way they tee off on Pyke.

What voodoo does this guy have.

Not many teams would have 4 30+ year olds with 250ish games each in their best 22

Most would have 1. Maybe I’m wrong but I calculations after the WB game and found they had very little 30 year olds in that game, none if I remember correctly, and barely any player over 200 games

Are you guessing or have you actually looked at the individual games. I did when I did my chart that I posted in post #16 above.

No I did the calculations after western bulldogs game coz everyone was saying that we have a young list. I posted it on here in the review thread. It was a while ago now but I remember being surprised that they didn’t have any many 30 year olds or 200+ gamers

In terms of “not many teams would have 4 30+ 250 game players in the best 22” that’s a logical guess. I would be massively surprised if more than 6 teams had similar

I’m not defending ken because I want him gone but people saying we don’t have a young group

Under 23 in best 22
Rozee
Butters
Duursma
Houston
DBJ
Howard
SPP
Bonner
Amon
Garner
Burton
Half of our best 22 are 23 and younger

Excluding: Marshall, Drew, Ladhams, Farrell, Frampton, Johnson who have all played games

This group is young. Our numbers are inflated because we have 4 250ish game players over 30 in our best 22
