Taking me couple of days to digest. Rewatched the replay last night and it's the most satisfying feeling finally being able to snatch a close one. They are so hard to win especially as a Collingwood fan and the fact we got one makes every list management, coaching, admin decision made all worthwhile. Nothing can take this away from us.

Absolute credit to Craig McRae. I thought we rode our luck with the close wins and our luck would eventually run out in a big final as it did in last year's finals series. We were never dominant as a team but the fact that we did this all the way to a premiership shows that there's method to the chaos.

So so happy for Pendles (and Sidey!). Absolute Collingwood legends. Would've been a travesty for Pendles to have only one premiership given his GOAT career.

Now the pressure is off, can't wait to see whether we can turn this into a Daicos led Pies dynasty!

Collingwood won fair and square in a good game.

One of the best grandys ever is a stretch, 2018 was much more exciting with better goals.

Well done flagpies, i shall continue to barrack for any team playing you.

Agreed Collingwood won fair and square and we deserved the win being better on the day (14 more inside 50's & 8 more scoring shots)

Disagree 2018 was better? The Collingwood and Brisbane sides of 2023 are far better then the west Coast and Collingwood sides of 2018. 2023 had the two best teams all year playing off in the grand final, 2018 Richmond were still the best team but "didnt turn up" for their preliminary final.

2023 the GF was higher skill and at a much faster pace than the 2018 GF

Q. My old man and I want to watch some of the post-GF coverage and analyses. Can anyone recommend anything?

Ones im aware of are AFL Access all areas. Not sure if the Sunday Footy Show ran or if 360 on Fox has done anything. Anyway advice and recommendations are most helpful!

Pendles and Sidey the first Pies players to play in 2 flags for a VERY LONG time - I believe the last of our players to play in 2 flags were - Mick Twomey (dec) Thorold Merrett and Murray Weidemann (dec) (1953 and 1958) - great the club had Thorold down there last week

There will be about another 20 of them next year.

360 is absolutely worth a watch. Shows some clips of our memorable games from last season and earlier this season, as well as the GF. Then they interviewed Fly.

It’s not so much analytical, but very good value.

Sunday Footy Show has a 20ish minute video on their YouTube breaking down some aspects of the game, and they interviewed several players too. Interestingly, Kane was talking about how he wishes he had been able to play for a coach like Fly.

I agree as well. The younger versions of the players who won it all this past weekend played their hearts out but the Eagles kept them pinned inside their own 50 for the back half of the final quarter. That our boys were able to hang on for dear life until Sheed's winner with two minutes left was a miracle by itself. They simply couldn't break the Eagles' defensive posture and pressure when it was all on the line.

In contrast, our 2023 Premiers, to include those players from the 2018 team, were older, wiser and far more effective against the Lions than they were against the Eagles. Even Jordan DeGoey in 2018 couldn't break tackles in the manner he does today. Cox as a ruckman was far more impactful on Saturday than his younger self in 2018 but also Grundy in the ruck.

Go down the list and compare the players. I think you'll find they were excited to be there in 2018, gave it their best shot but really weren't prepared to truly dig in and put it all out there when they had to. This past weekend, those players most certainly learned and grew from the experience and did just that and that's why they are now champions.

To see their development, fight through challenges, survive the changes in the club, adjust and adapt from the Buckley to the McRae era and now reap the rewards for being faithful servants to the cause brings great pride to every member and follower of this great club.

I couldn't be any more proud of our entire Collingwood Football Club than I am now.

Peace!

It was Thorold's 90th birthday on Grand Final day - how apt & wonderful is that?!

So happy to be living in the moment but on looking forward to next season someone asked me where our improvement can come from. Simplistically because we do the game plan thing better than anyone else, that’s undisputed. We probably lose no one out of the side, replace Frampton with big Dan and then how much better does that look. I’m confident in more astute off season pickups and the development of the Fins etc coming through. JFN, Dan, Tay etc will continue to bring the hunger to keep the team on their toes.
I’m sure our plan wasn’t just a 2 year deal, I’m sure there are more ‘layers’ to come. There’s a kid by the name of Nicky ******* Daicos that’s only 20 and of course we have the Fly 🥰

Good times are a comin folks.

Same here but we can't rest on our laurels. We need to continue to improve and adapt. Other teams will start to try and copy our style and methods. GWS flicked a switch and started playing a game style like us (you could tell both Kingsley and McRae coached at Richmond under Hardwick - very similar style) and they almost got us in the Prelim. They will be dangerous next year with a second year of Kingsley's style.

The "pundits" are already saying we won't make the GF next year.
They've written us off all year.
That's OK - it will just make it so much sweeter if we can do it again.
Fly hasn't emptied his bag of tricks yet.

Go Pies!!!

On Fox Footy, 2018 was voted as the best Grand Final of all time, which is kind of understandable.

Being as objective as possible here, there's a "recency" bias element to that with the close finish.

But across 4 quarters, 2023 I feel was a better football game to watch than 2018. I say that as someone who still views our losing 2007 Prelim as the best game of football he's ever seen in person. Unbelievable game. 2023 was tight the entire time, the football was more free flowing and there was a real back and forth to it.

My issue with most finals post 2010 is that almost all of them a marred by absolutely atrocious umpiring. Be it across the entire game or match deciding/turning decisions. That includes the 2010 Prelim by the way. Every time I go back and watch the 2010 Prelim, I see so many frees that weren't paid that directly resulted in Collingwood goals that kickstarted such insurmountable momentum.

It happened again on the weekend. Brisbane's first 3 goals were all a result of frees that weren't paid to us that should have been (and a 50). Modern umpiring is just so f**king bad that it makes today's games difficult to re-watch for me.

In the end, I find it funny that most of the "generally accepted" best Grand Finals of all time are Collingwood ones except one lol

1970 - Collingwood
1989
2010 Draw - Collingwood
2018 - Collingwood
2023 - Collingwood

I'm not sure though why 2005 and 2006 aren't ever in the conversation. They were both close finishes but honestly I don't remember the games themselves much? I don't recall if the actual quality of those games was good outside the close finishes.
