when they say it's exhausted i wonder what % they actually use up? for instance i doubt anyone has 0400 000 000 or 0400 000 001 or 0412 345 678? so there is probably still a shit load of numbers out there that they won't use.

isn't there already a state with 05 prefix?

Aussies struggle to catch onto anything in a quick time frame we are still struggling with the concept of Phonewords (13 Cabs) can you imagine people getting given numbers starting with 05 this will be a huge mess

Not really a big deal, I don't know anyones mobile numbers off by heart except my parents.

Yeah this thread-splitting business is getting a bit out of hand.

Surely this topic, as interesting as it is, did not need its own thread.

Hence my posting it in the 'aware me' thread.

What's going on out at Mod HQ?

Oh, and since this is my thread now, no posting crappy Simpsons scenes from the shitty seasons.

Especially scenes that are third-rate knock-offs of some of the genius work from the early seasons.

Case in point, that phone number clip posted above, I don't know what season or movie it is from, but it is a pale imitation of the scene from 'Homer's Odyssey' (Season 1).

Smilin' Joe Fission speaks with a Texas accent. ``Hi there energy eaters!'' SJF introduces the rods of U235, which are hot due to radioactivity. So they go for a dip in the pool. ``Last one in is a rotten rod!'' The water becomes so hot, it boils. The rods yelp, ``Ouch, ouch!'' The steam generated is used to turn turbines and produce electricity.

Uh-oh. Looks like there's a little left-over nuclear waste.
[pulls out a hand broom] No problem!
I'll just put them where nobody will find them for a million years!
[sweeps the wasties under a throw rug and stomps them down]

Aware me thread?

Heh, did not know about this thread. Cheers.

That's one of the many beauties of bumping threads, brah.

Peeps get to see stuff they didn't even know existed.

And isn't that what a forum is all about? Exposure to new ideas, thoughts, concepts?

Who could possibly, reasonably, be against it? I ponder...

People do have them. Generally pretty important people or companies who do have to pay more to have the numbers (i think they're called gold numbers) but they are used.

Yeah you can pay extra for triple and double digits when you get your number.

I got mine when 3 came out and were giving away gold numbers and have hung onto it since

Used to be in contact with a dude who was pretty high up in AAPT back in the day, his mobile was something like 0400 000 0X0.

they used to do a service where in adelaide at least you could get the 04 version of your home phone number as your mobile

(so if you're home phone was 08 8392 8837 for example, you could have your mobile number as 0483 928 837)

would imagine it was the same everywhere else

that would just be a pain in the ass

"ok so my number is oh four oh oh oh oh oh oh six oh"
"ok sir so oh four oh oh oh...."
"oh oh oh six oh"
"ok so its oh four oh oh oh six oh..."
"no no its oh four oh oh ... oh oh oh ... oh-"
"oh four oh oh -"
"just let me say it out to you"
"just how many zeros sir?"

Why would anyone want a number with so many of the same number in it?

I can say this with confidence because my number stars with 0400 -0xx xxx

The first set end in 0s and the second set starting in a 0 just throws everyone off for some reason, it constantly gets question

Plus imagine the amount of pranks if your number was 0411 111 111 or something

that would just be a pain in the arse

I agree. I remember one conversation i had with him went something like;
Him: "Ok just give me a ring. You got my number?"
Me: *Looking at his business card* "Yeah I think, it's 040000..."
"Yeah the one with all the zeros, that's the one."

you could just say oh four double oh triple oh etc...

in thoery yes but I cant see how "oh four double oh triple oh oh six oh" wont result in a "could you please repeat that" or some type of clarification

in comparison to something like oh four two one six five nine seven eight eight is just so mcuh easier to pump out, why you would pay more baffles me
