okay 1 season. did he play a senior game in 92? pretty sure he didn't.

i retract my first statement then, and replace it with the following

give it to a drafted player who has played 1 season. it still eliminates mcveigh :p

Hirdy played 4 games in 1992 wearing the #49 jumper (rounds 1, 21, 23 and 24) before getting the #5 jumper for 1993

It will be interesting to see what number Daniher gets.

Obviously number 6 is taken unless Angus offers it up perhaps?

Thats leaves his uncle's numbers....not sure if he would want to take number 5, alreadey has the pressure of a Daniher name then to add the Hirdy jumper on top of that may be too much expectations to handle.

Perhaps he may take the Jobe Watson approach of wanting to develop his own identity with a unique number..

is there any chance monfries will give up the number 6 for daniher? since his old man used to wear 6...

Monfries better not change his number! All my jerseys have his number on them!

I don't understand why ppl are calling for McVeigh to have No 5. Sure, he is the closest to embodying the Hird spirit that we have, but people, he's wearing no 10!! It's a number he's had great success in, and is forging another fine chapter.

The number 10 is just as steeped in tradition and glory as the no 5. Let McVeigh continue his great career in 10, and save 5 for someone else.

My 2 cents

Agreed - Anyone heard of John Coleman? O'Donnell did well with 10 too.

Give Hislop number #1, Ryder #16.. Hislop will be a gun midfielder in years to come.

Agree with the Hislop number change but would never want Bradley's unco germs to wear off the jumper on to Paddy Ryder. Give Ryder the number 2 jumper and give Dyson a number in the thirties somewhere as that's where he sits on our list. Wouldn't worry me if we gave out the number 5 this year and my pick would be Jay Nash.

I don't know why, but I have visions of Brad Ebert with the number 5 guernsey.

I know we've got to draft him first, but that's the picture in my mind.

Hird's been his boyhood hero...

Same, as I like Ebert!:thumbsu:

I say we retire the No. 5 guernsey for a year or 2. We could even retire it until the next generation of Hird enters the spotlight

Why don't we retire 3 or 10 then?

It doesn't work. The only reason to retire a number that I think is valid is what Marseille (??) did with Marc Vivien Foe's 17 (??) when he died during his career.

In 2008
McVeigh - 10

Gumby - 3

Ebert - 1

Neagle - 34

In 2009

McVeigh - 5

Gumby - 10

Ebert - 3

Neagle - 1

that would be my preferred option
I would like that aswell mate but I seriously doubt they would give our first draft pick number 1 and then take it off him:confused:

1 - Brad Ebert
5 - Rest for 1 year, then give it to McVeigh
16 - Scott Selwood
17 - Patrick Dangerfield
21 ;) - Luke Stanton
23 - Jared Brennan
26 - Darcy Daniher
28 - Glenn Chivers
....besides Daniher none of those are even on your list buddy. Doubt you will get any of them anyway

if you can read buddy i said 'besides Daniher none of those are on your list'
...bit early to give players numbers when they are a 1 in 16 chance of coming to your club.

Then why did you say 'I doubt you'll get any of them anyway'?

A bit of a juxtaposition.

Aside from that, I agree. However, there's a good chance that Brad Ebert will be with us next season.
