Sheesh. Seems to be injury of the month at the moment. That is 3 for us this year, and they are happening everywhere around the AFL and i know the NRL have had alot of them too.
Apparently within the AFL industry they think it's a combination of not training consistently through the year with the season shut down, lack of contact training during the season, and changes to holding the ball/in the back which is causing 'stacks on' and pulling players backwards in a tackle.

Not sure how that translates for the NRL though. 🤔

I would suggest two reasons. One that players are dragging players to the ground, instead of driving through tackles because of the dangerous tackle changes and because of quick kicks out of packs players are going up in contested situations and having their base taken away.

Players used to generally push/pull a player off their centre of gravity, now they are wrapping them up and dropping at the knees to drag them down using their weight often twisting at the same time, legs have no where to go under the body weight.

With more kicking to contested packs players are going up and it appears the packs are bigger, maybe because players are generally taller or tactically are around the drop point more, so they go up or are standing there and have the whole pack crash into the back of them.

Essendon midfielder Andrew McGrath will miss the rest of the home and away season following confirmation of a syndesmosis injury.

In what has been a stellar 2020 campaign for the 22-year-old, McGrath will seek specialist confirmation to determine if surgery is required.

McGrath limped from the field during the Bombers’ clash with West Coast at the Gabba on Tuesday night after awkwardly twisting his ankle in the second quarter.

“Andrew has sustained a moderate-grade syndesmosis injury. These injuries can be managed either surgically or conservatively,” head of medical services David Rundle said.

“He will have a consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon in Brisbane tomorrow to determine whether he should undergo a surgical stabilisation procedure. Either way he would typically be expected to miss a minimum of six weeks.

Surgeon is suggesting either managed or surgical recovery.

What should we do, after having cronic injury players mis-managed and out of the game for 18 months plus??
He hasn't seen the surgeon yet, that was the clubs head of medical services saying what options generally are. When he sees the surgeon tomorrow, the surgeon will decide on the best course of action.

Yeah but the head is sacrosanct

40 under 22. Can i vote him in a back pocket?
Nope, turns out you have to pick 6 defenders, 6 mids, 6 forwards and it predetermines which players you can choose from for each position :p

Pardon the interruption. Are Essendon fans confident McGrath will be retained?

Yes. Are you hearing rumours saying he wants out?

I'd not be surprised in the slightest if other clubs are trying to court him, they'd be foolish not to, but I've heard no rumblings about him leaving.

A Norf mate. I really cannot see him going there.

Ah got it. It's that time of year where Norf discuss how they'll spend their war chest, then end up with Polec and Pittard.

Snap! ... or another big anchovy like Billy Hartung.
