Hey guys been wondering where to post this so i thought i may as well add a bit of Collingwood into the post...

I need to know if anywhere in the rule book it states that a female cannot participate in the AFL. I.e. if a female was good enough could she play at any level in the comp?

To make this Collingwood i thought i would tell you a lil fact I just learnt and didnt know.

Nathan Buckley resigned from the rules of the game committee as he did not want his name slurred with all the changes to the rules they were making. What a champ!

Anyway back to the question... Does anyone know the answer and if so where it is stated?

Yes it does.

Girls over the age of 14 or 16 cannot play in any league, simply because of their breasts.

But lets be honest, there never has been or ever will be a female capable of competing at that level.
Not being sexist, it's just the physiology.

yeah i agree there would never be a club to take on a female... kennet seems to think so though.

Crusading Kennett wants first female AFL player at Hawks
September 8, 2009

HAWTHORN president Jeff Kennett wants his team to be the first in the AFL to field a woman in its senior side.

Kennett said he believed women have a future at the elite level in Australian football. ''I have become increasingly impressed with how many members of the female gender or sex play football and pursue physical activities and are remarkably fit,'' he told the Herald Sun newspaper.

Lol although in finding that article i actually found the answer to my question...

Under the current rules girls cannot play football with the male gender after the age of 14... Which brings me to my next question.

If collingwood wanted to recruit a female would you guys support it?

Simply put, yes, but only if that said female had shown at junior level (under 18's) or at state level (VFL, WAFL etc) that she could actually perform to the standard of that competition, if not even exceed that standard.

I have nothing against any race, sex, colour or ethnicity playing our game, in fact I encourage it, and I don't see Women as being any different as to trying to recruit an irishman, or an American male, it's just a matter of whether, simply put, they are capable of playing our game at the highest level.

Having said that, I still think we are at least 10 years or so off it happening (if it ever does), as there is almost no chance of a women being drafted if women can not compete in the under 18's or any state league, as per the current rules and regulations.

You can never say never, but never will a female play senior AFL football.

Agree entirely with the non discriminatory stuff, but physiologically, it just will never happen. Never. Ever.

Ever.

Kennett's pretty dim. Hawks already had the first female AFL player.
She plays in the back line for the Saints now.

As a member of the clubs playing list certainly not. Just don't have the upper bodies to compete (generally) and imagine them putting their heads over the ball and hello boobies. They would need an insurance policy of their own.

Female football leagues I certainly support, but I don't agree with the AFL becoming a mixed gender sport.

Not that the club would come out and make a big statement about it, they wouldn't because that is the way you lose a fan base. But for practical reasons I would not recommend any AFL club to adventure down this path.

I think there is a little more to it then that.

Women will never play AFL and they shouldn't be allowed to ever, I also think the age they get separated from the males is correct as well. Not only is there the physical & safety aspect involved (can you imagine Leigh Brown running through a female) the males wouldn't feel comfortable going 100% if there was a female in the contest which isn't fair to them or their side.

If a club were to take a female on at some stage in the future she would need to have played state league and not just juniors purely to see how she would go against fully grown men and not just teenagers.

If they can run, jump, tackle, kick, handball as good as their male counterparts I would take them, so the answer is no.

yep and she will line up on barry hall..he will take her lightly because she is a woman................................................. end thread.. you know the story! Silly question. will never happen!

Melbourne used their no.1 draft pick couple years back.

But seriously you wouldn't want to have a female at seniors level in mens anyway.

Sports science shows he difference between the bosy of mens and women, they would simply get permanent body damage, if its hard enough they prbaly couldn't have babies if they get hit that hard.

Without sounding sexist

Take a look at a couple of Australias best Female Atheletes over the years... Kathy Freeman and say Raylene Boyle

Do you think either of them could have stood the rigors of AFL?
