Geelong are interested in Hamish because their rucks are below average:

West-very average hardly gets his hands on it around the ground, can have good games though but they are few and far between
Vardy-2nd ruck who plays CHF
Simpson-still developing but hasn't shown heaps at Afl level
Stephenson-Never going to take them to a premiership doesn't get his hands on the footy enough.

Hamish fits the bill for them, they fill the ruck role and the role that Scarlett leaves (with rivers) and they are back into consideration again. That's what Geelong believes anyway.

Hamish in contracted, he has stated that he stay at north. We have no ruck depth. We are the ones with all the power if Geelong come hunting. if we do a trade WE MUST have a mature ruckman in our sights..otherwise this is just plain stupid. Anything less than a first rounder and Geelong can piss right off.

Pick 14 + Simpson for Hamish would suffice. Even then I would want to pick up another mature ruck.

It's stunning that Geelong would want Hamish, when they have the elite Dawson Simpson on their list. The man rated by most supercoachers as the new and improved version of big H. If we trade Hamish to the cats they'd have BOTH of them and that would be a frightening proposition for us all.

It'd also be great to solve another club's deficit for a ruck-forward while depleting our own stocks. If we can trade Majak in a year we can go for the trifecta.

The old 'trade for the shitter less talented version' trick. I like it.

It's more likely that they are using Hamish as a decoy.

The only explanation is that they believe they can win the flag in 2013. I believe that's very optimistic but I'm all for them chasing Hamish.
This. They are obviously going to give it one last crack and need a good ruckman (and a couple of others - I suspect they will be quite active this trade period) to become a legitimate threat.

Why trade Hamish? Because for two years he hasn't been a part of the team anyway and we have finally made the finals. He gives us nothing more than we have extra and he in fact a poor centre square ruckman. You have to be bold sometimes to take the next step and again, like last year, I would look at trading Hamish, getting a mature ruckman that is on the outer, and using the trade to bolster the midfield.

Hamish is not Dean Cox! Two ruckman doesn't work! Just because we get rid of a ruckman doesn't mean we can't get another!

Hamish is insurance, but a bloody expensive form of it. Offload Hamish, save some cash, get a player that can be used in the 22 now and charge for glory.

I wouldn't be surprise if Hamish's management has sent out feelers to fish out interest which is fair enough but I would prefer we kept H unless the offer is too good to refuse which I doubt.

I'm in HTB's corner here, we are in no position to give away a quality ruckman considering our ruck stocks.

I still can't see why we can't play both as the issue is not fitting in H but getting Goldy to play at his best in tandem with H. I see the issue is more with Goldy at this stage but at 24 he has time to adapt .
Please see Tarrant chasing a loose ball towards goal in the third quarter against the Eagles in the final. Big, lumbering forwards don't work even if they are more KP than ruckman. I think we need to swap one of Petrie or Tarrant out of the forward line to add more defensive pressure and run, can't add another lumbering Jack :)

However Goldy at CHB round 1 was inspired.

I never said Simpson was elite, all that part of the trade would do is make sure we have adequate back up if Goldy goes down. Pick 15 for Hamish I would do in a heart-beat. The bloke hasn't played for two years and he is too good to be running around in the VFL. Pick 14 then 15 would allow to net another two young guys. If we get Dawson that just means we don't have to go chasing another mature ruckman.

We are hardly depleting our own stocks. Hamish isn't a forward, and he won't get a game
Ahead black, Tarrant, Hansen or Petrie. For him to be playing seniors at north next year he will be relying
On Goldy going down.

Nope. We haven't been linked to any ruckmen. I expect we will keep our full compliment and add another ruckman in this years draft.

We have Goldstein and McIntosh that are ready to go, Petrie who is only a change ruckman, Daw who is only a burst ruckman and Ben Mabon who I doubt will ever fill out enough to make it as an AFL ruckman.

Thats it. 2 x ready to go, 2 x part timer/never will be full timers & 1 x surprised if he ever makes it.
He does need to fill out but that's all he needs to do. Has a lot of ability and doesn't mind putting his body in either.

Can only hope so.

Hope we know what we're doing. Watched Dean attempting to fight out of his weight division for too many years to want to watch it all again.
Im going on memory here but didn't we trade out Jibson (who wanted to leave) and Haley for a return of Harps, Basti and Kennedey?

Hale, Gibson and pick 52 for Harper, Mabon, Black and Kennedy. I know the DoS trolling version includes Bastinac but it's a creative interpretation only.

Other than Harper we haven't proven anything yet. Hawks have plugged 2 big holes in their list.

Btw these trades all occured under Scott's watch not Dean's.

Talk of trading Hamish for Gillies, Simpson, Orren etc is laughable. The only trade I'd entertain would be something involving Mitch Duncan, that is not going to happen so move along please.

Sydney Swans (playing this weekend in case you missed it) say hi.
Has been pretty average during the finals but has had a good year. I think the smaller ground has helped as the lack of defensive pressure is easier to handle than on the Dome. Not sure if it will be a long term success. He is pretty mobile though, moreso than Goldy or Hamish.

Nik Nat is a freak and so is Ryder. If you have a freak of a player or a good KP sized player who can handle himself for 30% of a match, like Roughhead, then you have two ruckman. Hamish and Goldy fit neither. Daw, Petrie and Peterson fir the newer style better.

All this talk of trading away McIntosh to extend our premiership window is laugahble. You actually need a good squad of players to get to this mythical window before you can open it.

I still can't see any reason why McIntosh and Goldstein can't play together. Hamish actually played quite well early as the second ruck/ forward option. It was Goldstein who stunk it up to the extent he got dropped.

On this point, who could honestly be comfortable having Goldy as the only ruck option with no realistic competition given his mediocre form in 2012?

There also seems to be an obsession with what McIntosh is being paid? Firstly, who actually knows and secondly who gives a shit. We are hardly under salary cap strain.

We need to find away to get from 8th to at least 6th in 2013. Trading away required senior players like McIntosh and L Delaney for draft picks and inferior replacements is more likely to take us back to 9th or 10th

Bang on there Moti. Saves me having to type it myself.

The overestimation of Hamish's (current) ability always amazes me. If he is traded, we get rid of most of his salary and will then pick up a cheap ruckman (or two, very easy to find) that are injury free and can help out Goldstein. Positives all round.

The fact Hamish wants to be a "one club player" (as mentioned elsewhere) is irrelevant. We aren't a charity service, especially when we've paid so much money for very little output already.
