Tuned in between 8am and 8.30am to hear Watto's Waste, some cycling interview, the promise of Andrew Symonds on next and some 'hilarious' discussion about Damir Dokic's new tennis coaching business and what other ventures would be similarly ludicrous, e.g. Barry Hall's anger management school and Wayne Carey's marriage guidance centre.

I tried to get through with "Timmay Watson's school for football coaches" and "Andrew Maher's school for talking non-stop under water with a mouthful of marbles and not actually saying anything worth hearing", but alas.......

Back to Sport 927 for me.

Anyone hear Hamish? Was he even on as promised?

Mr R believe it or not he was on at the time stated.
I too was not going to put up with those below par announcers for longer than necessary.

I tuned in simply because someone posted 8.10 and after a few ads Hamish came on.
The interview was brief and for the first time sensible.
They did try to ram down H's throat about how the club tried to get rid of him but H simply put an end to that by saying that everything was sorted out between himself Dean and Donald. He said that no personal malice was ever intended, it was purely a business decision at the time.

Hamish started off by saying how disappointed he was at the time because he loves North Melbourne football club so much and that is where he wanted to be.
He raved about Jack Ziebell.

Maher and Watson actually promoted the membership no and the upcoming family day and that was about all. As I said brief and sensible for the first time.

If I have overlooked anything I am sure someone else will come to the rescue.

Thanks, kangalover. I'm pleased it was a good interview:thumbsu:.

Somehow I managed to miss it and hear 20 minutes of drivel:eek:.

I was thinking the same thing. They really are short for ideas when they rely on the audience to provide the humour.

At least a bit later they recognised that we have the best ruck combination in the competition.

Timmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay and Radar also agreed that in their opinion North Melburne now have the most potent triumvirate of big men in the AFL, in Petrie, Hale and H. They thought long and hard during an ad break for another combo more dangerous and they couldn't think of one!

Maher also asked H whether or not Wellsy would finally fulfill his promise? He prefaced it by saying that people expect more because every now and then they see what he's capable of, and it's a blistering ability to take over and influence a result singlehandedly. Hamish said he felt Daniel, after a slow start to season '08, had a sensational final 15 or 16 rounds, and added that he's up for it this year for sure.

He kept returning to the point that many of our players have had their first injury free preseason in the last few and, when asked where we'd find improvement from for season 2009, he said that our second and third year players are much better for another Summer's workout and with a further year of maturity.

On Ziebell, he said that Jack had made a big impression with the experienced players since his arrival, after the buffoons asked him which of the new players had he been most impressed with. He said that Jack handles himself very well around the place and has earnt the respect of everyone.

I agree with kangalover that it was a brief, but very well handled interview from the big man.

It sounds like trade week's ill feelings are long gone and that the playing group are both well prepared physically and mentally, and confident of an even better showing in 2009.

If I think of anything else said I'll add it here. Thanks kl :thumbsu:

^^

Cheers t'toes or another fantastic SEN rundown.

I think the premiers could make a strong case as to having the best big man department (it pains me to say it) but I believe we run a very close second. If Hamish could regain 07 form, Goldy shows a bit and Drew and David hold their form we will give the Hawks big man department a run for their money.

Another thing asked was "What has the focus of this preseason been for the team as a whole Hamish?"

As I mentioned in another thread, his answer was along the lines of:

"The coaches took us through a few important stats for last season and it was quite obvious to them, and us, where we needed improvement, and that was in limiting our turnovers. 80% of goals scored against us were directly or indirectly due to us coughing up possession. With that in mind we've focussed heavily on improving disposals, and our general ball movement. We've put in a massive amount of work towards improving our running abilities as well, and we hope to utilise those improvements to up the pressure we apply all over the ground to the opposition, causing turnovers. We've been working really hard on all aspects of fitness, through the reported changes to our fitness regime from Paul Turk, and you can see the confidence building in the group as a result. As for the general gameplan, we have made a few tweaks to it, but the general plan remains...........win the footy, move it quickly and cleanly, and pressure them when they have it. It's pretty simple but hopefully we're much better equipped to implement all of those things much more effectively this year".

has Paul Turk been our best recruit for the past few years?
Let's hope the performances and results in 2009 say a resounding "yes he has!"

On the other hand, if I see us win the first ruck clearance against Carlton in the NAB Cup with Harro stepping back and throwing the ball long, gridiron style, to a running Boomer who takes it cleanly before diving head long over the goal line, I'll be little alarmed!

if big H can match it with the big cox then we will be well on the way to winning a flag. Not impossible, lets hope he steps it up a gear and re captures the form of 07!:thumbsu:

I'd agree with Cartman, if he can feature in all (potentially) 25 or 26 games next season i'll be as happy as Larry:D.

Before we talk about him in the same calibre as Cox he needs to build up a much bigger tank, also i'd like for him to just push forward a bit more and kick the occasional goal, he pushes back well but if he add that extra string to his bow he'd be very damaging.

Hopefully that ability to push forward will come with improved fitness. He's definitely a huge talent and could be coming into his prime this year and next year....

P.S: What are you talking about R4E? I thought this was one of _aria_'s best posts/threads started;).
