I reckon Zac Smith will be better than both of them.
D Hale might peg the interest of clubs as a back up tall/forward, a role he'd fill very well in the mould of Lade from the Power, in my opinion.
Is David Hale as good as Steve McCann or Donald McDonald?

The only way I would entertain trading any of our ruckman would be for a proven big key forward or a quality onballer that would both have to come with at least 7 more years of football in them.

I am happy to keep all 3 of them. We just can't play all 3 of them in the seniors at the moment.

I can't help but worry that we have seen the best of Hamish. I honestly can't see where he has improvement left in him. He looks relatively dangerous up forward when he drifts down there, but our midfield delivery isn't good enough to make any use of that.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but I almost wish he would get suspended/injured for 2-3 weeks so that Goldy can play number 1 ruck and we can properly assess where he is at in comparison. The next few weeks wouldn't be a bad time for it.

All need a ruckman. Would we go for Tippet?? Port and Richmond let them go and Roughead aint going anywhere.

I knew the OP would get criticised for bringing this up, and I'm not for trading him, but I do think the decision has to be made to play Goldstein as the no.1 ruckman. Saturday was a prime example. We were going along ok and then they put McIntosh into the ruck and Sydney start winning the clearances, and this has happened quite a few times over the last 12 months. IIRC he came to the club as a forward and he seems to be quite effective on the forward line but a ruckman he's not. I'd be getting Hale out and playing McIntosh as a forward. Then when Petrie comes back he can give Goldstein a chop out in the ruck if need be.

He was on the short list of 40 for the AA team last season, so he can't be too bad.

So was Pratt in 2008.

Any side Gerard "Leigh Brown is the roos most important player" Healy is involved in picking is certainly flawed...see Nick "no opponent" Maxwell on the back flank.

Back to Hamish....

Im not saying just get rid of him, I am talking about an actual trade where we get something in return.

The fact supporters from 3 other clubs have replied to this thread with interest of him going there, shows the currency he holds in the market.

Is he really playing the sort of footy that warrants that level of interest?

I find it staggering that we are so quick to all ship Hale off the the Goldcoast, where as we dont even consider McIntosh as a trade option.

What, realistically, do you think he would command at the trade table?
He's an 80 game ruckman who is now entering his prime.

A good pick, a good midfielder or a good forward.

Richmonds pick 1 or Reiwoldt.

Richmond wouldn't part with either because they couldn't afford to.

That's not the way to build a premiership list, you don't give away an important asset for another one.

You give up pick 25 in a thin draft for Wellingham, that's what you do, somebody needs to be shot.
As I said in another thread, we didn't say no to that. Collingwood was after pick 21 to satisfy St Kilda.

Secondly, not sure how "thin" the draft was, if both Black and Batinac make it.

I reckon he would command a top 10 pick from some clubs.
Doubt whether any clubs will be trading away many picks for a few years at least.
But we certainly need a ruckman (and much more but that's another story). I believe we can find a recycled ruckman, but it depends on what we would have to give up. Obviously to receive something good, you must also give up something good.
Nathan Foley? (I hope nobody from our board is reading this)

All im saying, is that Hamish has real value out there and I dont think he is delivering anywhere near an acceptable level in the ruck for a man of his size.

Hale could play as the back up ruck and offers us more up forward.

Goldstein just looks to me the better prospect for what could be a stoppage dominating midfield (Ziebell,Bastinac,Cunnington,Swallow).

We badly need a tall, skilled, reliable outside midfielder/Half back type. I know who I am describing here and I know he has gone, but its really what we are lacking IMO.

Our key position stocks up forward look ok, with Tarrant,Black,Petrie,O'Keefe and dare I say it Hale. Our backline is fine and our engine room could be our strength.

Play him for a season up forward first, if Hamish doesn't want to ruck, start taking a few grabs up forward, they'll ship him down there straight away if he starts clunking a few, and slotting them.
All we need atm is a forward to finish off the hard work, imagine if we had Fev or Bradshaw, did we chase either?

There can be only one...
He needs to just tap smarter, if he is winning the ruck and the other mids are sharking it every time he needs to get smarter and break things up a bit and start biffing a few to where he normally doesn't.

Good to see. While I dont think he has been terrible, he can do much much more. And when we are a young side we cant have players like Hamish, who has been around a few years going missing for large parts of the game.

Round 1 didnt even know he was playing until he played a blinding last quarter. Hopefully a bit of a rev up from the coach will see him play a solid 4 quarters of footy like we know he is capable of.

im not one to bag players but have been disappointed with this guys form, really came to the game against the dawks when he sould of dominated and didnt.

sure he may get a tap out but directing them has been woefull, i may of expected more from his around the ground play but believe goldy is doing the better job.

this has been brewing way before his injury last week, but for my liking would want to step it up a bit at the momement.
