Been very poor this year.

His tapwork has never been that good even when he is firing, but the worrying thing is that he doesn't seem to be working hard enough around the ground. When he was up and running he was like an extra midfielder.

I would actually say Goldy is ahead of him at the moment.

Struggling a bit. He is not getting it as much around the ground as he was last year and his tap work is poor at best.

Still, we know what he is capable of when up and running and he has some credits in the bank and his presence allows Goldy to develop without the burden of being the number one ruck.

H has been poor this year. Surprising that he has escaped criticism, especially considering all the flak that Hale cops, when let's face it, Hale is not a genuine full forward.
He should be a leader of a young midfield, but he does not impose himself and lacks aggression.
Time for a spell in the VFL, Goldy as first ruck with Hale as his deputy, and bring in Smith to play forward.

Hale, McIntosh and Goldstien, 3 massive guys, if they are all going to play in the one side, should we be expecting them to take more than 5 contested marks between them, I would have thought so, maybe i'm wrong, any thoughts?

Is easily the number 1 candidate to make way for Drew when he returns. He is a terrible centre square ruckman but is ok around the ground. Goldy is a much better prospect though and should be fast tracked to be our number 1 with Hale and Petrie providing some backup.

it is sad to see hamish not take it to the next level. he is awesome around the ground we all know that. his tap work is poor but when in form we are a much better side. hopefully he can regain some form soon as we need him to.

I have a feeling that Maccas issues are coming from the extra attention opposition defenders have been giving him this year. He really made it known last year that he can be dangerous for us and is now attracting more physical defenders.

Drew usually takes about 5-6 games to find some form (EACH year) so hopefully its the same story with Macca and he has a huge breakout game this week against the crows.

The problem for H has been his lack of midfield involvement. He has never been a great tap ruckman, but his strength has been more around his link up play, strong running and overall contribution around the ground. Now that's not there, which exposes his other flaws.

Not sure what has hampered him - whether he has a niggling injury or simply isn't fit enough due to some preseason issues is hard to say.

At this point in time he is just competing, but we aren't getting a whole lot of first use and he isn't getting as much of the ball around the middle, not pressing forward as much and not taking many marks anywhere on the ground.

It might be due to injury but he isn't setting the world on fire.

There was one bit of play that got me slightly annoyed with Hamish on the weekend. We were about to kick out and Hamish still had his back turned to the play. Just a minor thing but at a time where we needed a tall target it was disappointing to see him not even looking at where the ball was going to come from.

I'd like to see him miss a few games with his shoulder just to see how we structure up.
Goldy number 1 ruck with Hale playing forward and used as a back up ruckman would be interesting.
It would allow us to give Taz or Okeffe a go although i think okeffe will play this week either way.

im not one to bag players but have been disappointed with this guys form, really came to the game against the dawks when he sould of dominated and didnt.

sure he may get a tap out but directing them has been woefull, i may of expected more from his around the ground play but believe goldy is doing the better job.

this has been brewing way before his injury last week, but for my liking would want to step it up a bit at the momement.
The way I see it, he is giving us 10x what our other ruckman is at the moment so I'd like to know your thoughts on that. But then you could argue, 10 x 0 = 0. So yeah, you have a point. But don't forget, Dean Cox took a looooong time to become the star that he is, as did Corey McKernan, Nik Nat, Jesse White, Mitch Clark & co.

He's stagnated.

I don't want ruckmen that are ruck rovers, I want ruckmen that impose themselves on the match with a physical presence.

I stated 3 years ago that Hamish should be locked in a weights gym for the entire summer with Glenn Archer throwing darts at him for inspiration.

He plays "nice" football.

As do Goldy, who's young and excused, and Hale. They don't impose themselves. If they did the mosquito fleet may walk a little taller, and have alot more ground ball to compete for. Great points.

Goldy has the skill set to play nice football and still be damaging.

Hamish is presently more like a version of Sam Power that can ruck.

The fact Hodge wasn't hospitalised for playing in the ruck pretty much sums up our big men are built like Tarzan but play like Jane. As Grant Thomas said during Footy Classified, if he was a ruckman and Hodge went into the ruck he would drive his knee through his chest on the first ball up.

We have no mongrel.

Sadly I think we have seen the best of McIntosh. His ruckwork is not improving and he seems to struggle with the increased pace of the game. He has minimal physical presence around the ground which is also disappointing. Really like a lot of guys he has been ok to poor. But he is a senior player now and I think we have every right to expect better performances.

Anyway once Petrie returns one of Hale, McIntosh and Goldstein needs to go IMO, and right now my vote would be McIntosh because I just dont see much upside to his game. He might be a little better than Goldstein right now, but in a year or so he will be well behind.

Even before Hodge went in I was hoping Hamish would smash Roughead with a knee to the ribs at the opening bounce. Hodge, I wanted rendered incapable of walking, let alone running and competing.

Yep, and as I said, he's excused.

I couldn't help but think of this issue whilst watching Setanta O'Hailpin compete like his life was on the line last night, and the big ranga out marking the Saints' rucks.
