I think he's honestly torn between home/family and Melbourne. I'll be spending every day until he signs on again wishing for the Eagles and Dockers to fall apart with all the enthusiasm I have to see Melbourne winning.

Too many unknowns here - dads health, hogans potentially waiting to assess goody's first year, hogan potentially backing himself in for a bigger year next year, his manager potentially advising he hold off for similar reasons...

Just can't get a good read on the situation.

Will say one thing though, if his dad is crook I feel for him. If he is, can totally imagine and understand that he probably wants to be home but quite possibly also genuinely loves being in and playing for Melbourne (as most statements from reliable/semi-reliable sources have affirmed or at least implied).

It's not something I'd be able to make a call on without serious deliberation and some time off/away from things.

God I hope he stays though, and that his old man is fine.

Backing himself for another big year is a waste of time if he wants to stay at Melbourne. He is already considered the linchpin of our forward line. He will be paid huge bucks to stay - now or next year. The only value that goes up is his value to the 2 Perth clubs. On the other hand, if his value goes up with the Perth clubs, we get more in trade value. I don't think we get nothing if we wait until he's out of contract. Because he's not a free agent, he can't just choose his club, he'd have to nominate for the national draft if he leaves us without a deal in place. It's still a risky proposition if he wants to control his destiny.

He either stays or a deal will be done - either this year or next year. The only question is what he will be worth. If he stays at Melbourne, he's worth the same. If he goes, his value could go up or down - depending on what sort of year he has. If he does a Lisfranc, he's no value to anyone. That's why he should get a deal done - you never know when you might have a career-ending injury. "Backing yourself" to boost your value is foolish when you already have big offers on the table. He should make his choice now. But if he doesn't, I don't care anymore. Just as long as he stops looking grumpy and sulky all the time - that's all I want. **Cue smiley Hogan pic from proper gander**

As far as I can make out, the father's health thing is an Internet Demonland type rumour that hasn't expressly come from Hogan, manager or MFC so while it's getting a good airing, may not be accurate.

I'm going to focus on forgetting about the Hogan business for a bit. I figure if I focus elsewhere he will sneak in with a 4-5 year deal.

This is how I first read your post, but I haven't had breakfast yet which probably explains it. What I don't understand is that I hate KFC

It still makes sense your way. I'm pretty certain no information about Hogan has come expressly from KFC either.

Mistakenly smoked a joint instead of having breakfast? Would definitely show commitment to trying to being a Lumumba fan!
