Backing himself for another big year is a waste of time if he wants to stay at Melbourne. He is already considered the linchpin of our forward line. He will be paid huge bucks to stay - now or next year. The only value that goes up is his value to the 2 Perth clubs. On the other hand, if his value goes up with the Perth clubs, we get more in trade value. I don't think we get nothing if we wait until he's out of contract. Because he's not a free agent, he can't just choose his club, he'd have to nominate for the national draft if he leaves us without a deal in place. It's still a risky proposition if he wants to control his destiny.
He either stays or a deal will be done - either this year or next year. The only question is what he will be worth. If he stays at Melbourne, he's worth the same. If he goes, his value could go up or down - depending on what sort of year he has. If he does a Lisfranc, he's no value to anyone. That's why he should get a deal done - you never know when you might have a career-ending injury. "Backing yourself" to boost your value is foolish when you already have big offers on the table. He should make his choice now. But if he doesn't, I don't care anymore. Just as long as he stops looking grumpy and sulky all the time - that's all I want. **Cue smiley Hogan pic from proper gander**
