Sometimes Freo fans on here get me wondering what Bigfooty in the 90's might have been like.

Brisbane fans: "well Dunstall comes from Queensland so he'll come back, it's a matter of time"
Adelaide fans: "Yeah kernahan will get homesick eventually" *posts picture of Sticks in an SA state of origin jumper

Slightly off topic but Sydney appears to be the same as it is now

They make me laugh those Freo fans.

I wonder what their thoughts were a few years back before their South Australian captain, and club legend decided to resist the urge to go home and stayed loyal to finish what he started.

Apparently he's happy living in Melbourne, and by the time his contract is up, I think we'll be as good a place as any to be striving for success, and certainly a lot better than Freo. I think he'll have extended by this time next year ... And he'll be being paid so much, Dean Terlich will be his Servant.

I walked around the MCG the other day and I knew - absolutely knew - without a shadow of doubt - that day is coming.

The wheel always turns full circle.

Day is coming.
I know their was a tougher era from 64-87 being a demons supporter, but I might cry seeing the red and blue playing in the finals again

It dawned on me seeing Jesse romp it home in the 'best young key forward' thread on the MB, that we as a club have a huge responsibility in ensuring Jesse's talents aren't wasted here at Melbourne.

We have the best young key forward in the comp; a player that is the very personification of someone you can build a premiership side around. This is quite astounding really and I don't think many of us would have expected this level of star at Melbourne after years of Jace Bodes and Isaac weetras.

What does this mean? I don't know but to a certain level we have to bend to what Jesse wants. They say a player should never be bigger than the club but Jess is quite literally a game changer. This was evident in us picking up two forwards over the drafting period as per Jesse's request, three if you include Joel Smith. Does it mean if someone like Alistair Clarkson somehow indicated he wanted to jump ship to Melbourne at the end of the year, would we pay out Goody and thank him for his time? Yep you would pretty much have to. Jesse needs the very best around him in order to reach his, and Melbourne's true potential. This is our responsibility in having a generational talent and him staying at Melbourne long term will be one of the greatest tests for PJ and the coaching staff.

Just about the most important thing the club can do is keep Hogan around. He will give us the best chance at a flag we'll see in a lifetime. He'll drag a team over the line let's face it.

Jesse is a huge, potentially once in a generation talent. I agree with that. And yes we have a responsibility as a club to do the best we can, within reason, for him.

I'm not at all keen on the idea of giving him 'whatever he wants'. F*** that. Ultimately, champion teams win premierships. (Cliche ugh).

Going down the path of giving young star players whatever they want only leads to friction and is detrimental long-term to the club.

I get the Hogan love around here, I really do, but I hope to god there isn't as much smoke blown up Jesse's arse by the club as by supporters.

Not having a go at you directly in that regard, we're all guilty of it. But the only way Jesse will be part of our next premiership team is it it's constantly reinforced that the team comes before any individual. That nearly made me vom when writing it but it's true. Once in a generation talents dont always win flags. Ablett, Lockett etc.

I think you underestimate how good Hogan is. He's LITERALLY JESUS.

But no I agree. He should be given what he is worth and if he doesn't want to stay at the club after that there's not much more we can do. We're not exactly short on star talent - guys like Brayshaw, Tyson, and Viney are as much the foundation of our club as Hogan is, and a disproportionate view of Hogan's worth creates unreasonable standards for both him and them, as well as forwards coming through like Weideman.

Having been through that era , i get the feeling this wait wont be nearly as long . Still a bit to do yet but the batch of kids look promising and are being developed as a young group ,hopefully that want to play for each other .
One of our previous coach's once said " There will be ups and downs along the way , but hang on cause it will be one hell of a ride "
