Sorry to interrupt but I was at a luncheon in Perth yesterday where Leigh Matthews was speaking. He was quite respectful of Majak and said that he needs time to develop his knowledge of the game. He said that when Majak learns the nuisances of the game he could be an extremely good and spectacular player.

Majak lacks the smarts and we have players that offer more as a decoy.
I agree he has a lot to learn but the fact he is so big, quick and can jump he demands one of the best defends. LH is too good as a defender so it's down to Tas and fitness. Daw knows what he has to work on the fact our season is shot he may as well learn playing on the best. And the fact our season is shot means we may as well lap up the hype while we can!

Way to quick to write him off. Needs to play the season out to learn more about his game.

No way does he deserve to be dropped. The kid is 5 games in FFS.

I got shot down 4 weeks ago about Adams but look where he is now. I'd say here is one player that should go first. Different position I know but Maj offers more long and short term.

Predictable management decision. You'd assume that his value will only rise as the season progresses, so it's a logical choice on his management's part.
It was weird because he said it was positive news for the club.
What we saw last night, is what you will get from Maj 99% of the time.

His manager would be down right stupid not to get something down right now.

My understanding of Ralph was that it was a mutual decision to delay talks so that they'd have a better idea of what's fair later on.

I can see Majak tearing Adelaide a new one this week. He'll be that pumped after a poor game vs WCE and the fact it's Ingenious Round just throws fuel on the fire. It'll be like a Strike Force.

The thing that amused me about this when I read it on the mainboard was that a lot of eagles posters had a go at Brad about it... yet last year their coach did the exact same thing with NicNat, pretty sure it was basically an identical headline with the words Brad Scott and Daw changed to Worsfold and NicNat.

It was Worsfold who came out and did it before the final. In fact **** that whole club and travelling to Subi. Next time we play them in Melbourne they will get pumped.

I hope we dont get carried away with his "marketability". It would be an insult to our playing list if we paid overs. The main risk will be if richer clubs start offering more for the publicity opportunities. He has played one useful game, and even then it was one of the luckier 6 goal hauls I have ever seen.

Bit harsh mate, could have been 8-9
But you are correct no one is bigger than the club... if he chases money let him go... no more than 250-300 per year... maybe allow him to go out at get some endorsements, not sure if we are allowed to help....

Not sure about that. As good as he has been at times during games, he's getting subbed out routinely and you'd expect, like any first year player, he head back to the magoos somewhere along the line. Especially once Tarrant returns from injury and has come up to speed.

I can see Maj playing the last 7 or 8 rounds back at Werribee and dropping off the radar a bit as a result. His marketability will be better while he is in the one's, so you'd think his management would like a deal done within the next 4-6 weeks.

Well they should be declaring any 3rd party deals so shouldn't have any more leverage than us. It's a poorer club with cap space to burn which would be the bigger threat.

I get not overdoing the marketability but Majak needs to be kept a North player for a hell of a lof of reasons.

From a pure footy point of view we've put 4 years into a tall athletic project player and should make sure we get to enjoy the fruits of this for the next decade.

The club should be going to the AFL and asking form money similar to Folau and Hunt and what they've talked about for Franklin.

Lets be honest Majak opens up a whole new market for the AFL.

How North nearly missed out on Majak

May 24, 2013

Peter Hanlon

Key drivers in Majak Daw's story have called for the AFL to create a rookie list category for recently arrived migrants, recalling such strong resistance to drafting him from North Melbourne's football department that the club's administration had to take responsibility for his signing.
