1. Mitch Brown (2007 - 2016)

It looks like the 10 year old boy with a shoddy concentration span gave up some time in the 3rd quarter when collecting WAFL statistics in the Claremont and East Fremantle game.

At the time, Brown had 7 disposals (6k, 1H), 3 marks and 1 tackle. It's hard to read too much into those figures because of the 10 year old boy but 7 touches was good for equal 3rd least on ground at the time.

In another bad sign, Chad Jones had kicked 4.2 by that point, however it's hard to level blame on Brown there, since he may have been playing on a different forward.... Hopefully.

So, Mitch has been named at CHB in East Fremantle's televised game against the Thunder this Saturday.

His potential opponents are James "Chucker" Bristow, a 23 year old hailing from Golden Square, who kicked 3 goals last weekend, or our very own Scott Lycett, who should be too raw at this stage of his development to worry Brown.

Indeed, East Fremantle are heavily favoured to win this game and it would be nice to see Brown set up some play from defence, since he probably wont have a lot of defending to do.

Although I didn't watch the game, I think it's fair to say that Brown probably had an impressive match, going on the stats -11 kicks, 9 handballs, 3 marks and a tackle.

Plus his likely opponents, Lycett and Bristow, only kicked 1 goal between them.

He won't get a game any time soon but it's good to see Mitch is keeping the pressure on our key defenders

Mitch gets a mention in the WAFL report on the Eagles website:

Teammates Brad Sheppard, Mitch Brown, Koby Stevens and Jacob Brennan also enjoyed productive days. Sheppard and Stevens will doubtless be discussed at match committee, particularly if they decide to re-jig the midfield structure in the absence of Embley...

Brennan and Brown have also been solid in defensive roles, should opportunities become available in the back half.

Brown has been named on the Bench to play GWS on Sunday.

Should he make the cut, it'll be his first game since round 21, last season, and the 44th of his career.

Apparently, Brown will make the trip East, so even if he isn't in the best 22, he won't be playing WAFL. Having said that, most would assume that Brown is likely to come in for Captain Glass.

AFL ROUND 3:

Mitch played his first AFL game of 2012 on Sunday. It's the talk of the town.


Stats:
13 Disposals, 4 kicks, 9 handballs, 5 Marks (1 contested), 0 FF, 1FA, 0 Tackles, 5 contested possessions, 69% DE, 7 1%ers, 86% TOG.

Those 7 1-percenters, that's good for 2nd best on field after Smith.


James says:
Brown had as good a game as you could expect considering how long it's been since he played at AFL level.

He didn't have a great start when he sent his first kick out on the full but he worked himself into the game pretty well and ended up providing some run in the end.

He defended about as much as he had to and while he didn't stand out, he was solid.


Worsfold says:
"Really pleased to see him [Mitch "Kentucky" Brown] come back into the team and show that he's still got the hunger and the ability to be a really good player for us. He's a big part of our club so that was great...."


Bigfooty says:
Predictably enough there have been mix reports on Mitch's game. A few people claim to have been under-whelmed while others felt as though he did his job.

The majority chose not to comment.


Fantasy prospects:
He's never been a big scorer, he's not likely to stay in the best 22 and he's injury prone. BUY.

The bottom line:
If we didn't have a certain Darren Glass to come back, Mitch would hold his spot. Since Glass is set to return, Brown will be wearing a Sharks uniform next weekend.

Being a part of bigfooty I agree with the bigfooty consensus he did his job but i wouldn't really say he impressed. he's good enough where i would be confident if one our 3 talls (including schofield) went down he would be a afl quality replacement.

Was never going to displace EMac or Schoey and EMac showed why on the weekend he's the preferred option at the moment

You have to love the way Mitch goes about it though. He's probably good enough to be getting AFL games for most other teams but he's happy to stay here and wait his turn.

He had another typically solid game against East Perth on the weekend, collecting 16 disposals and 6 marks.

Mitch has again been described as having played a solid game, maintaining his 100% record.

Defender Mitch Brown, unlucky to lose his place after a solid performance against GWS, put that disappointment to one side with a solid display for the Sharks.

Mitch isn't playing for the Sharks today and the rumour around the place is that it's because he's going to come into the Eagles side for Eric MacKenzie, who has an ear infection.

If Brown does play for West Coast, he'll likely line up on Brad Miller or Tyrone Vickery, while Schofield will take the every dangerous Jack Riewoldt.

None of the Tigers' tall forwards have been particularly damaging so far this season however all are capable of hitting the scoreboard on their day, as evidenced by Millers 7 goals in rounds 2 and 3, and Riewoldts 4 goal game against Carlton.

Vickery is yet to score more than 1 goal or collect more than 8 disposals this season.

Should he play, a pass mark for Brown would probably be having no more than 1 goal kicked on him.

So it turns out that Mitch did come in for MacKenzie and he had a real chance to show everyone that he belongs against decent opposition.

Unfortunately, after starting on the bench, Mitch lasted no more than 2 minutes before getting a poke to the eye. He sat on the bench for the rest of the 1st quarter before being subbed off at quarter time.

In his 2 minutes on the field, he was solid, dishing out a handball in the contest which ended his day.

It was terrible luck for Brown and the West Coast Eagles. You could mount a case that Brown's injury is what made our defence struggle so horribly. Without another tall the help Glass and Schofield our structure was nowhere.

On the plus side for Brown, he should be back playing football next week, albeit in the WAFL.

The worst case scenario will be missing a WAFL game with that eye injury but chances are he'll be okay.

Lady luck has given Mitch another chance this week, with Schofield being being suspended for 2 games.

As much as we all want to see Will out there, this is a chance for Mitch to put his best foot forward. He's had a couple of games already this year but it was hard to prove much against the Giants and, of course, he got injured very early last weekend.

Hopefully he remembers how tough it was to get any sort of opportunity in 2011 and takes this one with both hands.

So Brown's luck turns again.

According to David Teague, Brown's eye injury is similar to Kennedy's last year and the club is not sure how long he's out for. He won't train this week though and will get assessed again in a weeks time.
