Nick Vlastuin our next 300 gamer?

He is less than 60 games away, rarely ever injured something dramatic would have to happen for him not to get there.
still playing high quality football & I see him for the next few years at least.

I hope so.
I just get the feeling that playing footy isnt his #1 priority in life.

I think he has balance & other priorities. It's part of what makes him a great player.

That's a good thing not a bad thing, he loves his surfing and the outdoors. I can see that being positive to playing longer not a negative.

Just saw a graphic on Ch7 talking about McGovern’s retirement.

Most intercept marks in the AFL era.
McGovern 6.6’” 5 AA
Andrews. 6.8”. 2 AA
Vlaustin. 6.2”. 0 AA

Criminally underrated

If he played for Geelong he'd have 3 of the feckers. Add a white headband too and he'd have 5. And I'm not even joking.

RFC supporters Love Nick. From the team point of view I don't mind him being underrated outside cos it may mean teams put less time into Nick? Which is better for us...

I remember an interview saying his nickname was Tigger from a young age & I thought, how goods this!? (I think it was his mum?)
Great contributor to RFC, so consistently good. Captained his under 18 team wasn't he?

He could get to 300 by the end of 2027 if he only misses 2 games.

'TIGGA' GETS HIS MOMENT

NICK Vlastuin has never been an All-Australian. He has only been in the All-Australian squad once.

He has never won a Richmond best and fairest. He has been in the top three of the Jack Dyer Medal twice.

He has never been the Tiger on billboards, nor the frontman to their golden run of success.

And he has never shirked an issue, a quality that continues right up until his 250th milestone match this week for the Tigers. Whether his bump on Patrick Dangerfield on Saturday was Vlastuin seizing the chance to get one back on the Cats captain for the crashing connection that knocked Vlastuin out in the 2020 Grand Final or not, the Tigers' No.1 made sure Dangerfield felt it.

That's been the way of Vlastuin throughout his career. The Tigers wanted Vlastuin long before he was theirs.

The captain of Vic Metro's under-18 side in 2012, he had impressed Tigers scouts through the year and on the AFL Academy's tour of Europe early in the season. His season had its ups and downs but 'Tigga' remained firmly in their plans.

Heading into that year's draft, there were a few 'locks', including Lachie Whitfield at No.1, and Calder Cannons teammates Jonathan O'Rourke and Lachie Plowman at No.2 and 3 behind Whitfield as the Giants looked to group mates together.

Back at the No.9 pick, Richmond was willing through Vlastuin, knowing he was their man as Damien Hardwick built a team in his own image. It has played out to be the perfect selection.

Whitfield, Jake Stringer, Jack Macrae, Ollie Wines, Brodie Grundy, Aidan Corr, Jack Viney, Kamdyn McIntosh, Rory Atkins, Mason Wood, Tim Membrey, Jake Lloyd, Dane Rampe and Zac Williams are the only remaining players from the 2012 intake still in the AFL, with Joe Daniher and Lachie Hunter retiring last year.

Vlastuin sits comfortably in the top handful from his draft class, taking on and shutting down forwards of all shapes and sizes through his career whilst underpinning Richmond's defensive group.

The 31-year-old is signed until the end of next year, but will go close to joining the illustrious Richmond 300 Club down the track.

Good hit on Dangerflog, what a man :rainbow:

We can't have vigilantes in our game under any circumstances. If Nick felt aggrieved by something Patrick had done to him previously, he should have written to the relevant authority outlining his concerns and left it in the hands of the expert people whose job it is to act as custodians of safety in this magnificent sport.

This moment was the beginning of the belief that we could win it all in 2017.

Could the Tigers win a final?
Could the Tigers finally find a way to beat Geelong?
Could the Tigers deliver on the big stage?

Tight game, all in the balance, Tiges expected to fold and the cats expected to kick away.

Tigga with an important intercept mark around our attacking 50M line.
He slots the massive goal and we go on to kick 9 of the last 11 goals of the game to bury the Cats.

So many hoodoos buried in one single moment.

Nick's been my favourite player for a long time now, and in this moment I was up and about!
Congrats on 250 games for the yellow and black champ!

His level of consistency is just astounding really. I can't remember the last time he had a bad game or if he's had one in the past 10 years. I don't watch others teams as closely as RFC but I wonder how he might compare to say a Matthew Scarlet? (Different positions I think). I can't think of another player I would prefer over Nick TBH... It'd be interesting to hear from Nick how players like Newy impacted his development?

Been a favourite of mine for a long time. Just seems like a top bloke and is obviously a great footballer.

Absolutely, my god that goal was incredible. Still gives me shivers

Geez, watching those highlights... My memory is frazzled! Could've sworn that goal was off the back of an intercept. He took so many intercept marks that night to be fair!

The reason he doesn’t is because Richmond didn’t play a high possession style during our successful period. Whereas Stewart was getting 20 uncontested touches a game and 10 uncontested marks from defensive chippity chip chip.

It’s a disgrace the selectors were looking at disposals and SC points for defenders and not actual defending and intercepting, of which Vlastuin is one of the best half a dozen in the last decade.

Absolute superstar player who’d have 6 x AA if Richmond did more chipping around the backline.
