This year isnt necessarily about changing standards

He wanted to have a look and then make changes

Why make change based of zero information and knowledge? Thats a dangerous and stupid way to go. He was given 4 years instead of 2 so he didnt have to do this stupid shit

Give hime time before burying him

The club gave way better effort till this round alone. Parish and Zac Merret alone have improved defensively

Hes progressed guys like Perkins and Hobbs

Do people seriously expect much with the most inexperienced side in the last half? The seasons done. It was after 3 qtr vs the dogs. The club knows that.

Nothing from after that point matters

We’re a clogger haven. Have been for 20 years. Management fall in love with spuds worse than the members and that’s a significant achievement.
Your Marty Gleeson, Slattery, Jackson Merrett, Zaharakis, Fantasia, Michael Quinn, Heppell, James Stewart,
Weideman, Aaron Francis types are clung to and listed for sickening lengths of time beyond their used by date and in some cases they never had a period that they were even useful.

It is no consolation but that was probably the best Eagles side for a while.

We have lots of ball watches.

So drop 2 kids we need to get minutes into for a player we'll likely retire in a month, put our best forward down back and bring in an underperforming small and the worst performing tall forward we have played this year.

I mean over the last decade but currently Hep and Snelling aren’t playing in a future successful side, aren’t offering protection to young players. Hep has played a handful of good games in the last 2yrs and been woeful outside of them. ADJ Baldwin Tex all should have been playing more footy, could of had a look at Voss when he was showing good form early in the season or even now just as a different look for the forward line, we played Weed for 8weeks without kicking a goal. It’s good to see the young ruckman getting some games and playing good footy

Daveys played 10 games now this year, hes been average. O.Lord would offer as much, doesnt mean he should be playing

You can pick the youngest 22 on the list but theres a reason thats never been done by guys earning 500k+ a year before

What I am saying is that he has made a crucial error by taking this approach which also happens to be the easy way.

He's essentially allowed Essendon 2023 to be Essendon 2021 following a path of 2 previous coaches who didn't start with sustsinable hard working defence. They then both couldn't implement the defensive plans required and everything fell apart.

This is the understood history of Essendon under Worsfold and Rutten. You can go back to the tension of 2018 and Worsfold checking out or you can look at what happened last year when the players were confused by the defensive plans (every other team seems to be able to implement).

The different between Scott and Rutten is Rutten was trying to implement a defensive strategy from the get go. Scott isnt.

He wants basics done well and if theyre not then he will look to rectify them the best he can.

Snelling has been playing ahead of young players, Hep getting votes playing the easiest roll in the side loose man in defense. Playing Voss may have given us some physicality we desperately need and we were still every much a middle of the road team
