Wouldn't surprise me at all if it ends up a Geelong/Hawthorn GF.......those two have been foes in GF's since I was a kid (a long, long time ago) I was at 2 of them. 1963 and 1989.

However, we are not out of it yet but it will be a monumental task to even get to the GF let alone win it, with our hard draw and injuries...

...but who knows, our boys are capable of doing the seemingly impossible....and that wouldn't surprise me either!

One of our posters in this forum has a preference for us to finish in 8th position & win the flag from there.

So I looked at that possibility.

There is a scenario that I did on the ladder predictor, that has us finishing 8th & winning the flag by playing Hawthorn, Collingwood & Geelong in the first 3 weeks of the finals at the MCG & then the grand final against maybe Adelaide.

How would that be! 4 finals at our "2nd home ground" - the MCG!

I was keen to face Geelong last year.

As much as we'd be a good chance, you would think Geelong will be trying some different things this time around. Often learn a lot more from losses.

Neale for them is in great form and will have gone to work on countering Andrews.

They have zero injuries which makes a huge difference - I think we have a clearly better best 22, but we will have 3-4 out minimum and others proppy.

Obviously we can beat Geelong but I am just tempering my expectations.

Gws is the side I want to avoid most.

Adelaide at AO I am not keen on.

I still think the Hawks worry us a bit too.

A win this week would be big on a few fronts - top 4, 2 in a row v hawks, back on track at the gabba, and finally 2 in a row for the first time since round 19.

If we get rolled it's not impossible. But given we would drop to 7th or 8th, we would be expecting 3/5 losses to end the season to turn in to 4/4 on the road wins.

Tl:dr win this weekend lads!

I’d almost guarantee if we played Geelong in the first weeks of finals, the game would be at the Cattery.

We’re not Collingwood and you just know the VFL would look out for Geelong.
they arent going to let a finals matchup that sold 90,000 tickets at the mcg last year be hosted at kardinia park.

when was the last time geelong hosted a final at kardinia? over a decade ago would be my guess.

Nil chance.

AFL looks after it's bank account.

Edit: Especially as it looks like a qualifying & prelim final will be in Adelaide.

if Geelong isn’t allowed to host a final at the Cattery, which I’m personally happy about if the game involves us, but why don’t the AFL make Giants play its finals at the SCG or would they make Suns play finals at the Gabba being a bigger ground. Lets be honest if is the latter occurred and the Suns are ranked higher and playing is, I’m all for the AFL to move it the Gabba 😉
because there's a massive difference between 35k at gmhba and 93k at the mcg

Technically the AFL can make the Giants and Swans play their finals at Accor Stadium, not the SCG. But yes, they can move the Suns to the Gabba.

IIRC the rule is that games can be moved to the biggest AFL-hosting stadium. Nothing about moving them to intermediate stadiums like Marvel or the SCG.

Suns vs Collingwood semi final at the Gabba lol. That'd feel like an away game for the Suns.

I dont know why people are coming up with weird scenarios for home finals its pretty easy logic to figure out, the suns wont be playing home finals at the gabba, even if they could fill out the gabba which would be debatable its only 36k vs 23k at Metricon and accor can no longer be used for afl games and Geelong play all finals at the mcg

Geelong can't even fill out their own stadium. Legit, they got 28k when they faced port, while we got almost 31k at the Gabba. They deserve the MCG purely because of their embarrassing attendence numbers at home

93k at the G in the Prelim last year.
No way the AFL knock back the extra 50k crowd and the dollars associated.

We beat them over there this year anyway.

We level up based on the level of hostility so I welcome them to schedule it at that landing strip.

Geelong have requested to play all finals at the G....I believe.
thats not correct, they want to play at home, any crowd that can attract 60k+ will be at mcg meaning thats where they are playing

Geelong CEO Steve Hocking last week said “there is always the possibility” of a final at the stadium, hinting that it hadn’t been completely ruled out. But the AFL’s longstanding finals policy requires all Victorian matches with an expected attendance above 60,000 to be played at the MCG.

Not a longshot we'll end up away to GC the first week.
I think the AFL would love the Suns to make it to finals just not a home one.
Afterall the AFL do want to make some money
Not sure if Freo away is possible but they would like that one

So, from a quick ladder predictor. Following the Suns loss tonight. Our absolute worst case scenario would be we finish 7th & play Freo in Perth.

Best case scenario is we finish 2nd.

Some might say our best case scenario is both us & Geelong win on the weekend & we finish 3rd.
