what on earth is going on, players are getting injured everywhere this season and we constantly have a few on the report

before we came into tonights game, we had out of our best 22 the following

johnson, rivers, mcintosh, kelly, T-hunt, varcoe, chapman, vardy, smedts( inj 1st qtr), horlin smith( inj during game)

10 of our best 22 out of the side is a serious concern.. is it bad luck or is there something else happening

injuries seemed to be on the rise since they tried to speed up the game and reduce the bench rotations.

Vlad and the Kevin Bartlett are no doubt onto it though.

no other team has 10 of its best 22 out, basically half of our side is missing

its not a number of outs u can just accept and say "injuries happen", we are talking half an AFL senior side

There is also Menzel - which makes 11 good players missing. But I would suggest that not everyone would consider Smedts, Horlin-Smith or Vardy (or Menzel for that matter) are in Geelong's best 22. For what it's worth I posted my best 22 in another thread, and Smedts and Hyphen were only listed as emergencies.

So while players like Johnson and Kelly are replaced with players of much lower quality, the likes of Smedts, Hyphen (and yes, Menzel) aren't missed as much.

it's the price you pay for pushing yourself harder than your peers.
Geelong set specific goals for 2013, they began training earlier for the first time in years and they all got through the pre season basically unscathed but there is nothing out of the ordinary with Chapman, he's always been iffy with the hammy's and missed matches, Rivers has never been in a game with that much intensity for years and his body gave way, Varcoe was unlucky but the rest are just part of the modern day game unfortunately.

Collingwood have Beams, Young, Goldsack, Toovey, Fasolo, Daisy Thomas, Johnson, Shaw missing. All best 22 when fit. Keefe will be in our best when up and running-he was outstanding before doing his knee last year.

i rate smedts as best 22, same as horlin smith this year, he has been outstanding in the middle, 20+ possesion games each week or there abouts

i just dont include menzel in this years talk as he wont be around until mid 2014, he isnt in geelongs picture for 2013 anymore

fasolo and toovey arent part of your 2013 picture, they are 2014 talks, cant put them in best 22 talks for this year as they arent coming back, same reason why i didnt bring up menzel in the 10 named, he is 2014 best team not in the picture anymore this year. and i think johson isnt best 22 anymore for collingwood anyway, 32 years of age and just well past it

Was a great effort by the Cats although we were missing a few as well. If I had to name a player out of all those that would most likely would have made a massive difference in the end it would be definitely Johnson I think he is worth 3-4 goals. As good as Kelly, Chapman are they can be covered even if there replacements are not quite as good.
The pies have bad luck with injuries the last year and a bit, but the upside of it is that it gives players an opportunity and in the long run only improves your depth down the track hopefully come finals time.
Losing today meant little for the cats in terms of premiership hopes given you are 7-0 and the loss is probably a good thing in focusing the players but the fact you are getting games into players like Thurlow who could improve your side by making best 22 come finals time means much more.
Next time we meet which could be in the finals there could almost be up to 20 different players playing!

Wrong by more than 50%, try 14 or thereabouts.

The important thing isn't how we're going at round 8, as annoying as losing to collingwood is. What's important is we make top 4 and how many players we have available for finals, and all those players could be playing by then. Remember we still have GCS, GWS and melb to come yet and 7 home games.

Yes, I didn't factor in those, but he still doesn't average 20 disposals or anything like it. Ineffective possessions may be another matter.

Ouch. I like GHS but he only seems to be able to play one role and doesn't link up in space much, same type of player as caddy, not sure they can continue in same team unless they add more strings to their bow

They're both young, they've both got a lot to learn, but they've both shown enough to suggest they are going to be good.
They're both pretty handy inside but at this stage I'd say Horlin-Smith is the better inside and Caddy is the better of the two playing outside.
I think his team-mates need to stop feeding it to Horlin-Smith unless he's got a bit more space than other players, because he's not only slow by foot, he has slow hands. He could do worse than spend 24 hours a day watching tapes of Mitchell and Watson to see how they overcame this problem - better awareness of what the next move should be (ie where you're going to send it when you get it), and simply speeding up with the handball.

We really did not get through practically unscathed. Choppy, Corey struggle with soft tissue injuries, we lost how many with foot stress fractures?

Injuries seem to be on the rise around the league, luckily most of ours aren't serious.

True. And I would suggest that this thread is just a reaction to suffering our first loss for the season.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!!

Send Duncan to the same school...

actually your wrong, 23 possesions against sydney, 21 against the bulldogs, and 18 against essendon, these are the only 3 full games he has played this season, the other two he played as a sub, and saturdays game he managed 15 touches with a medial ligament injury, so to just grab his season stats off GFC website doesnt paint the picture at all of where he is actually at in terms of performance

he has been outstanding this season when given a full game, best 22 easily based on them

id argue that if mcintosh gets back to his best he will make a bigger difference than johnson, but only just as johnson is a star

dont agree kelly and chapman can be covered, Kelly is an A grader and one of our best players, and chapman is right up there for us too, they are only coverable to an extent because there are players of a similar mold on our list, but in terms of output and ability, we dont have anyone to come in via VFL even close to these two, schroder is half the player chapman is, and caddy is no where near that of kelly

i thought collingwood played great, posting this stuff is absolutely nothing to do with the result of the game, i was saying the exact same thing last week when we beat essendon by 5 goals in the game of the undefeated sides. having so many injured from the best 22 as well as reports is a big problem that needs to be looked at for us, regardless of wins/loss its an issue that needs to be given some attention. if we only bring it up or deal with it when we lose, then the club isnt doing the overall right thing

I already conceded my mistake about the sub games, see the posts above. He played well against Sydney, adequately in the next two, and poor to average on Saturday (though apparently hampered for an unknown period and extent by an injury).

nope, i had the exact same concerns last week, this week, and i will have the same concerns next week, and the week after if our list stays in this sort of shape

our list isnt in a healthy state, regardless of whether we win/lose it needs to be addressed

they reported on 3AW after the game that the diagnosis at this stage is medial ligament damage and up to 4-6 weeks out
