Its a real good sign that he's looking so fit at this stage of the year. This bloke could be absolutely anything.

I had picked Langford as my 'breakout' player this year but i dunno I'm starting to get excited thinking about Francis making an impact at AFL level.

Will be great if both our rangas in Francis and Redman stay injury free during the pre season. Can't remember what Francis' specific injury was last year but Mason missed a lot with patella tendonitis.

I have performed a very careful analysis of the interview with Myers and consulted experts.

Francis does appear to be taller than Myers in the footage which would put him somewhere around 6'4.

My theory is that if you lined up everyone in the AFL listed as 190-191cm Myers would be tallest of them all.

Is training as a forward early in the pre-season but so is Hooker. The thought of Francis playing forward with Hooker and Daniher excites the hell out of me but surely one of those 2 play back with us getting Stewart.

I'm more excited/optimistic about Francis than I am Langford or Laverde.

Francis is just a footy player. Not am amazing athlete but a good footy player.

I think he has quite a few athletic traits in his leap, speed and agility. And obviously he needs to work on his endurance.

I find this to be a strange view.

Laverde in particulars has done everything Francis has done multiple times and at AFL level.

really?

I can't say I can recall Laverde ever taking as good a set of defensive marks as Francis did in his very first game...

I rated him as the best player in last years draft so he better have a break out year :D
I think he will play a lot and at both ends. Was down on fitness last year and has put in a big effort to get himself right after feeling he missed a bug chance to play more games last year. Nothing has changed my opinion yet. If he stays injury free I still think he will be a star.

I don't place much stock in intercept marking as a defender. Sure, it's a useful skill but unless it's bossing contested marks it's just another part of the game the importance of which is overstated because it's a result of the tactical evolution of the game. The ability to cut off an attack is part of the job requirement for a defender these days.

To be honest, the point I was trying to make is moot anyway. I don't disagree that there are parts of Francis' game that are as exciting as anything we'll see and I expect him to become a star and clearly one of the best players from his draft.

But intercept marking is how we sucked saints into to giving up pick 5 for Carlisle and thus get Francis.
