and I suggested that he already had front position coz his forearm was resting against his opponent's chest here:

I think that we are just talking past each other now.
Can we agree that it was a good contested mark?

Who knew one marking contest could seemingly decide if a player is going to make it or not.

Obviously his opponent wasn't any good.

Yes he has some good nous and definitely knows how to contest for the mark. You can tell from that contest that there was definitely a class difference. His opponent was trying to shut him down by playing the man and not the ball, which allowed Jarvis to dictate the terms to him.

Rab.. I think you have seen a bit of PS stuff have you seen anything of this kid or any of the newbies?

Unfortunately NO.
I saw Kreuger do some light stuff at training a few weeks ago. But he mainly handpassed the ball and only kicked it no more than about 15 meters. I guess that he is under instruction to protect the knee after the knee injury. I think that it was a strain iirc. He is a nice size but being a kid he needs some upper body work.

I have not seen anything of Jarvis at all.

I am eager to hear reports as I am always hopeful that they will be successful players for the Cats.
The down side is I cop crap when they don't succeed. i.e Shane Kersten.

Everyone is an expert with 20/20 rear vision. I think one of my early posts on SK was a reservation on his height but he showed plenty to have one hopeful...and I think like you..whether predraft they were my favourite or not once they are on our list I hope they succeed. The hard reality is though that in a settled side there are few chances to break in.. and in a rebuild side more chances but probably a harder task to play good footy. I think the average games played for a draftee.. may be 50 games?, Pure_Ownage ? , .. which means when you get successful players who get into that productive area of post 50 games they stay in the system for 100-250 games.. it must mean a lot of kids just like Gardner or even Lang or Smedts etc... Its all ..you have plenty , of time, plenty of time.... bang .. sorry you are done and the new kids shows a bit. ..so it is important to do...something . Its the John Kennedy say that is so correct. take a hanger , kick a goal , take a run but do something. Nothing is as bad as being ordinary... as you have to have something to seperate you from the rest. Henry ..classic example. He was not the best kid but he has a few attributes that most do not have. In the end with Kersten ..when he started to miss those close in goals the writing was on the wall and guillotine edge was getting sharpened.

I can certainly see a little bit to like in all we have drafted this year.. yet I can see how they all could fail..no one looks a dead cert pick. Jarvis looks like he has a nice group of attributes.. and we will see how he develops.

Kruger , id have thought , would be more developed than that... being 19. Sounds like we will not see him in 2019. Out of all we drafted I think Atkins is the most likely to give us the most games in the afl in 2019.

Nice size medium young forward big hands, kicks both feet and written off in his first preseason.

Obviously no good... delist now..o_O

He actually looks like he could be a modern one of Wells utes... I could see him playing a few roles if he can put some meat on his bones..

Apparently the median is 19 games, and according to the below only 30% of players make it to 50 games. We drafted 9 if you include Kreuger so on stats alone we probably added at best three 50+ gamers. We have a reasonably good track record of beating the odds but the stats say you gotta draft 19 or 20 other kids before you get a 200+ gamer.

So what is draft success.. 50 games? 100? Is someone like Murdoch a good effort based on draft position ... or does it say a lot about our r1 failures?

Its an interesting table but it only makes we want to see the data presented in another way... That data is for players who play at least one game , once a player gets to 50 games , what percentage of players get to 100, 250 etc. ... I think 50 is probably a reasonable number to say that club has a good idea on the player.. but even that probably varies club to club...maybe 75..maybe even 100.

.... and how does your draft position affect games played after 50... I think it might be reasonable to say that once you get to 50 your draft position is less relevant that your afl form. Look at the list below and one can almost workout their worth on games played rather than draft position. Right now... id have Henry worth more than Cockatoo for eg. Although we can be hopeful, history say several players listed here will not play 50 ...or 100.

May have been mentioned but Fogarty looks like he’s had hip surgery or some sort of procedure. Off for 6 weeks.

The next two weeks is the prime time(all the surgeons back in full swing) for us supporters to get smacked between the eyes with player X is going in for surgery on Y that hasn't responded to rest and a modified program over the off season and is likely to miss the start oh the home and away fixture. There's always seems to be one.Who?

No ESP there just following the trend over recent years, bugger

Honestly, thats pathetic but highly predictable. Our medical staff is a disgrace!
Are you serious. Groin soreness should heal on it’s own in most cases. You don’t just send a guy in for surgery straight away, you give it time to heal. You’d want to avoid surgery and only use it as a last resort if it doesn’t respond over time.

Recovery times are much greater than just rest. It’s idiotic to say herr derr he should have gone in for surgery months ago, when it had a much higher chance of fixing itself through rest. Talk about the benefit of hindsight.
