Norths history of "converting" certain players is actually quite positive.

Higgins had plenty of question marks, a lot probably related to confidence in his body to be fair, but he was an incredibly rounded player in the contest by the time he left versus the time he came. I believe Cunnington was a strong influence there.

Similarly, Stephenson showed plenty of increased appetite for the contest through his time at North (win in the wet v West Coast), but clearly there were other issues for him and his desire for AFL footy on the whole led to inconsistency in hunger which led to a pretty early exit from football. No doubt confidence and crowd feedback played a part.

Polec even turned a corner at times, but again I feel like either his ego or lack of 'social cohesion' (read lack of ability to read social cues... cough) played a part.

I feel like it's an element we back ourselves in to transform, similar to our ability to develop rucks, and is a remnant of shinboner that is still kicking underneath the surface

The point is I don't think we every got to see Atley play where he should have.

Atley used to take off, break lines and run looking for movement only to see none and wonder wtf to do.

When Marley Williams turned up he ran with Atley on one of those runs and when the appropriate moment came Ats handballed it to him and we got it forward and kicked a goal.

I think Clarksons coaching of him and stephens should be called out - he clearly backed them both in and both look like they have “clicked”. Getting Hands on the ball and are halving contests. They are going when its their turn. The rest flows.
Great coaches get great results out of the bottom 6. Some cant be saved - lmac, corr etc but he sees things in some of these other guys and builds confidence in them.

I agree mostly but gees LMac cops a bad rap on here. He's been pretty good this year and if he can be the lock down defender, I think he still has a few years of good footy left.

Lmac cops a bad rap on here because he makes inexcusable mistakes and decisions that senior players should not make. Archer and a fit Goater have so much more upside
