Past Sam Naismith - delisted 2022

Sam Naismith
An ACL rupture and a long list of complications wiped out Sam Naismith’s 2018 and 2019 seasons, fuelling the hunger of the chief Sydney Swans ruckman for a comeback 2020 campaign. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy product is an excellent tap ruckman who’s shown promising glimpses since being drafted in November 2012, particularly as Sydney powered towards the 2016 Grand Final. The New South Welshman had always worn the number 35 before switching to the number 10 for season 2020 in search of a fresh start.

I really hope this is satire.
It's not, we currently get smashed in the ruck but around ground Sinclair does a good job. Naismith does well in the ruck but his around ground does leave to be desired. It'd be good to have options depending on the matchup and rucks are often late bloomers.

Agreed. Sinclair has been very good in the sense that we've relied on him as we've had nobody else and he has delivered.

But in the grand scheme of things he's still not much good as a ruck-man and if we can do better, we should be trying. As you say, we now have two fairly experienced rucks plus Cameron. if Naismith can get fit we have three rucks competing for a spot next year which means we can be more flexible with our choices.

Flexibility and competition is a definite plus. I'd still back in Sinclair for the start of 2019.

Surprised by this, 3 years? Anyone know how he's tracking?

First thought is that this looks like another contract we were too generous with the length.

Not surprised to see him re-sign given our depth, don't rate him overall though.

He is a pretty good, and probably our best player primary as a ruck (*ruck craft only). I looked up his numbers from last season and he matched Gawn for instance in our game vs Melbourne (27 hitouts to 29).

If he can improve around the ground, he is at worst reasonable and cheap ruck cover, an area of our that is pretty weak overall right now.

Doubt he’d be on much more than $150k.
